Its going to be hard to get an objective answer with sampling bias this extreme. I think Lemmy is better than almost any other social media I’ve used just by virtue of being small and niche. It tends to attract people who are intelligent, but also groups in people who are abrasive or confrontational since they got banned from other platforms, especially Reddit.

And then there’s me where I seem to have a workspace for every topic or task, and I use GNOME scratchpads to quickly have single view apps pop in and out independant of my workspace (and so scratchpad brings the app to me, instead of dragging me to the app).

Ive used tiling windows before and it doesn’t really help me much. I can configure workspaces with full or split windows myself and not touch them instead swapping around using workspace shortcuts.

Time will tell I suppose 🤔 perhaps if we let the room fill completely with raw sewage and it puts all of the plumbers out of business we’ll know for sure 👆🤓

I moved into a townhouse too late to plant anything but next year! Definitely not nearly enough to support myself but I’m saving to buy an acreage in the next few years.

I want to start farming and growing vegetables. My dream is to have a pantry filled with wall to wall canned and pickled stuff I grew myself… to live for an entire winter on good I grew and preserved…

Same with chickens. Fresh eggs and meat…

If you’re in Canada there’s hamstudy. Im sure there are similar community projects worldwide depending on where you live. The duality of HAM is that they try to educate and bring more people into the hobby while also being unfiltered pricks if you violate unspoken HAM etiquette which drives away more people…

Not any more than the websites the search plugins use. Its basically searching the same way you do, on the sites you specify.

The search lists are community compiled and maintained and use dozens of those sites. Of course don’t completely trust it… but it works really really well…

The biggest benefit is you can search everything so you don’t have to trawl multiple sites. You can also add private trackers to it as well.

It depends on the generation. Older tapes and drives are a lot cheaper, especially second hand but hold less (tapes aren’t meant to be overwritten a lot though so typically you want unused. New old stock or new).

Most homelabbers use LTO-6 or 5, and you can also upgrade your drive and still read your old tapes (except for the newest generations iirc)

I haven’t looked at a price comparison for years, so I’m going off pre AI numbers. It was cheaper then spinning rust back then for $/TB (for my setup it was cheaper than rust by a massive margin since I have a quarter petabyte of storage. Amortizing a tape drive over that many tapes gets cheap quickly), but maybe its different now?

A gigantic multi million dollar target for a $300 DJI with a mortar charge zip tied to it… the entire western arms industry is a gigantic rent seeking grift to get costs as high as possible since that’s the only way of raise profits… Ukraine is the only nation aligned with the west that is focuses on building cheap effective weapons at scale.

We don’t know the causality so its better to play it safe. What if pre-dementia or pre-alzheimers donors have the protien and it really is transmissible? For something as lethal as either of those diseases you would err on the side of caution and refuse donated blood with those proteins.

A massive contributor to why HIV/AIDS is so bad in Africa is becausecof pooled blood products that were contaminated with HIV from donors even after we knew it was transmissible by blood… those companies packaged and sold or donated those products to Africa seeding the current crisis.
