9 times out of 10 the people who post this kind of stuff or the people with 10,000 bumper stickers about tailgating are just bad drivers who need to blame it on everyone else to soothe their ego.
It’s much easier to call every else crazy instead of realizing that you’re just slow and in the way.
It’s always the people fixated on tailgaters who are oblivious and going 50% of the speed limit because they’re too busy staring at the traffic they’re creating instead of focusing on the road.
I regularly have people tailgate me when I am driving only 75 mph in a 65 mph area, despite the fact that the person ahead of me is driving the same speed as me so I could not drive any faster even if I wanted to. Fortunately the situation is usually resolved as soon as enough space opens up in the neighboring lane that they can dart past me and tailgate the car in front of me instead.
I have no problem with them going around me when space opens up; I have a problem with them doing unsafe things, such as tailgating me until space opens up to pass me and then rushing past with narrow margins, especially when the result is that they only gain a couple of car lengths and just end up tailgating the car in front of me instead.
They literally said “driving only 75 mph in a 65 mph area” meaning they’re already speeding excessively and still having other drivers tailgate and pass them for going too slow
Nobody should be peer pressured into breaking the law, especially when the risk can be literally life or death on top of risk of law enforcement interaction (which can be extremely bad for many people. Some jobs literally require zero traffic infractions and check regularly in order to maintain the job. Folks on parole or probation can be sent back to prison for a minor traffic infraction, at risk folks can experience racial profiling during traffic stops which can be deadly)
When it comes to breaking the law, everyone has a risk tolerance. Some folks that’s zero and they will follow every law they can, some will accept some risk of a minor fine but not more, and some will risk everything regularly. Just because you want to speed excessively doesn’t mean anyone else is obligated to enable you
So if someone wants to run a red light but isn’t first in line everyone should start running the red too so that they can run it? That’s basically what you’re demanding with your gospel of Keeping Pace
Or if we want to make this even more extreme (and less good of an analogy), if I see someone pouring drugs into a girl’s drink I should do absolutely nothing because I’m not a cop?
That’s not how this works. That’s not how any of this works.
Why are you doing that redditor thing where you bring up a random hypothetical that makes no sense as if it’s a good refute?
Just yield dude it’s not hard. You should really try to not let your ego do the driving because you make the roads more unsafe when you fuck up the flow of traffic.
Oh comeon, we all know that it’s an unwritten rule that you either drive exactly at the speed limit, or up to 9 MPH over, because no cop will pull you over unless you’re egregiously speeding (because literally everybody speeds).
Don’t be a fool who follows the law to the letter, rather than interpreting the intention of the law as you should, and also how judges and lawyers are trained. That’s why we have judges and lawyers to begin with, because there is no one singular right way to interpret the law.
Don’t know where you live, but in my state there is a law that states that you must go with the flow of traffic, regardless of the speed limit. Driving slower than the flow of traffic not only causes traffic jams, but also increases the chances of either getting into—or causing an accident. Your stubbornness causes more issues than it fixes.
Fair enough, lol. It seems that our comments have triggered a few bad drivers, especially yours. But these people are wrong, and they need to realize that before they cause an accident.
Honestly I’m not trying to fix anyone and upsetting them is kind of the point.
I’ve always wanted to have all of the slow idiot drivers in one place so I can call them all slow idiot drivers and his thread has been deeply therapeutic for that.
The down votes don’t bother me because I know it’s the opinions of shitty drivers.

Cool story, sounds like you’re bad at keeping pace. Maybe try using your cruise control
I do use adaptive cruise control. Mysteriously, this does not cause the car in front of me to drive any faster.
Idk if they have the space to get around you it sounds like you were just in the way and angry that someone has the audacity to go around you.

You’re taking this really hard, huh?
Nah I’m just not going to glaze shitty drivers. People in this thread are just self reporting because only shitty drivers complain like this.
They literally said “driving only 75 mph in a 65 mph area” meaning they’re already speeding excessively and still having other drivers tailgate and pass them for going too slow
Ok sounds like they weren’t keeping pace you’re not a cop so it’s not your job to enforce the speed limit.
Maybe instead of worrying about the other drivers so much you should focus on yourself and learning how to yield.
Why are you being intentionally obtuse?

If people want to pass you you’re inherently not keeping Pace what do you think keeping Pace means?
How do you not understand that you’re not a cop and you don’t get to decide how other people act? Why are you being intentionally obtuse?
This entire thread is full of bad driver self-reporting about how much they stare into the rear view instead of looking forward.

It’s a speed limit, not a mandatory speed.
I also have to say that I was frequently tailgated, because I was going at the speed limit, when mostly everyone else went above.

You’re talking to chronically online people, they have no concept of what normal conventions are.
They just see the rules as an excuse to be pedantic losers.
They know they’re going slow in the left lane and enjoy being tailgated because they get off on being pedantic losers.
People who complain about tailgaters endlessly are always the shit drivers.

You’re not a cop you have no authority to enforce the speed limit.
People are going to drive like this, it’s your choice to sit in the way, pissing everyone including yourself off.
Ok.
