    Unpopular opinion: I didn’t like the whole borg queen story. The idea that they were a decentralized network assimilating others to extract useful things, was much more appealing to me.

      Yeah, it kinda ruined the Borg for me. I get that having a faceless decentralised collective as an antagonist is a challenge to write, but giving them a face is the laziest possible way to get out of it.

      My thought is the Borg Queen is less actually in control of the collective and more like the voice of the collective, similar to Locutus. She’s also the outlet for every drone’s horniness…

        SFDebris’ notion of different Queen models that provide a certain strategic ‘flavour’ is about the most that saves the concept for me. Barely.

        First Contact and Endgame are steady, focusing more on precise moves between periods of steady growth. Scorpion to Unimatrix Zero guided the Collective towards aggressive and expansionist moves.

        Less ‘in control’ and more like setting the faction policy in a 4X game for example.
