Such a technology would require resources to be invented that, in a capitalistic society, would have all but assured the slavery or destruction of civilization under the burgueoise, much like AI is doing to us now. The canon I know is limited to, like, three series, and the earliest I recall is that the technology had to be given to humans by another species.

Eh I still have a lot to catch up to (believe it or not, I haven’t yet watched Lower Decks!!!) so there’s room for improvement.
That said, the fundamental problem that matter replication is basically a Terminator technology under capitalism remains.
