The short answer is that if you’re a pathetic loser and know you’re a pathetic loser, you’ll die for anyone who tells you that you’re a winner… because that’s exactly what a pathetic loser would do.

What actually blows my mind is boomers absolutely had it right at the dawn of the internet.
Trust NOBODY. Trust NOTHING. Surrender NO SHRED of your identity over the wire.
Wtf happened? I didn’t see it unfold myself. When I moved out on my own, the boomers still didn’t trust anything on a computer screen.
Then one day everyone’s parents were on Facebook and they’re falling for the most obscene lies.
Anyways, thank you Anakin for training some of us to be Jedis before you succumbed to the dark side. I promise not to forget the wisdom you imparted before you went insane.

7·3 days agoOr perhaps in some cases, neither, and they’re just developing a narrative that the markets reward.
My company is laying people off. But also replacing them not with AI, but with contractors. And now, some new designation of “per project contracts” or something.
Anyhow, net effect? Less work useful work getting done, new cost of AI tools, AI tools not generating any value, and if you count total humans in the mix, it’s at least as many as before.
Moving our product has never been more expensive and we’ve never done it this poorly before. But the market just sees “layoffs due to AI” and think it’s because we (and others) have cracked the code of how to substitute humans with AI to save labour costs. We haven’t. Not even CLOSE.

This type of nonsense actually kills the thing you’re trying to protect. What are you trying to prove? That some kid doesn’t know the songs? Sure, you know you’re right… but why milk it? Just say “come as you are” and share your passions with others.

15·7 days agoSomeone explain why these aren’t the prerequisite steps required if the ultimate goal was building a robot army.
Deregulate, and create a legal buffer from what “your” robots do and you. That’s not my “army”, that’s my independent security force im contracting.
They blasted some guy by mistake? Accidents happen. Also they’re thier own company.
Scholarships still generally have a subjective aspect, often in the form of a short essay.
As long as there are subjective measures, there is the opportunity for abuse.
Like, hypothetically if you were an institution you might want wealthy students who’s parents will be inclined to donate large sums of money… and you might recognize that if the parents are in the public eye it would be attractive to them to be able to say thier kids made it on a full ride scholarship (even though thier donations would vastly eclipse any tuition costs). You suddenly have an incentive to use the subjective component of a scholarship as justification to award the scholarship to wealthy donors to ultimately profit.
Not saying that’s necessarily what happened here… Just that the argument of “that’s not what they’re used for” is a little hollow when they’re already not being used for what they’re for.

12·8 days agoI literally just now wrote two paragraphs trying to humanized you, the exact opposite of demonizing anyone. Praising your good qualities, even.
Then you come back, shrieking like a banshee, continuing to not read or think. Really trying your hardest to reinforce every negative American stereotype.
I think, genuinely, the best thing you could do if your goal is to try and have the world think better of Americans as a whole, would be to just shut the fuck up. Every single post you make, I think less and less of you personally. You’re making me work harder than I want to remind myself that you don’t represent a whole country. You frankly are no more endearing than a MAGA. The specific flavour of your stupidity is admittedly different, but it certainly isn’t significantly less concerning. You’re just as illiterate, just as fear mongering/unaccountable (“OH please, don’t you see how what you’re saying is the precursor to a genocide?”, you say, as someone points out YOU are ACTUALLY funding an ACTIVE genocide).
Again, can’t stress this enough, if you are concerned about the common perspective of Anericans as a whole, you really really really should keep your mouth shut. Better to be silent and thought to be an idiot than to open your mouth and remove all doubt kinda scenario for you.

11·9 days agoWhere have i suggested anything even remotely similar to the allies roughing up the German citizenry? Violence at all?
I get that you’re mad. For some reason you’re desperate for someone to acknowledge you’re “one of the good ones” or something.
First of all, that is pathetic, period.
If it makes you feel any better, I’m sure your identity is multifaceted. And, ultimately, I pass no judgement on you as a complete human. I’m unsatisfied by your comprehension of your own situation. Im unsatisfied by your comprehension of the world. I’m unsatisfied at your ability to read. Im unsatisfied by your capacity for first order logic. I think you are very thin skinned.
But you’re passionate. You write well. You say “fuck”. You have an instinct to “defend” your “kin”. You don’t know when to quit. You’re obviously incredibly optimistic. I admire and respect all of those things about you.
People are multidimensional. I don’t think you’re a bad guy. Nothing you’ve said makes me think you’re great or anything, but like… you’re allowed in my house?

Maybe it’s on me, but after comparing boycotting mcdonalds to a literal war crime… to come back by trying to convince me to cut Nazi Germany some slack.
You do you. I always say to people now, that you never now need to guess what you’d have done if you were in nazi Germany, it’s whatever you’re doing now.
I don’t expect everyone to have taken a Crack at hitler. Or to have sabotaged a fuel truck. Or have sheltered a Jew.
But, apparently, what YOU would have done is write scathing rebuttals to the Allies who were critical of the bystanders. You would have been arguing that the rest of the world was asking too much of the German people.

Glad to hear Cory is cool w/ it. Putting a word (even by accident) to a poorly-expresable part of the human experience that let’s people communicate more effectively? That is a contribution to society that most of us only dream of. Fucker did it by accident. Thrilled for him.

23·9 days agoWe’re different people and I was offering another more understanding voice to the mix. You may notice my bar was actually just “anything more than just saying not my problem” which I actually thought was pretty generous and is wildly telling that even that was triggering to you.
What do you want? Me to do the sign of the cross and give a blanket absolution to all Americans on behalf of the rest of the world?
“Go, my children, your country may ravage the world I absolve you”. In the name of the father the son nato UN and all humanity. I offer this to all citizens of the USA, Russia, and Israel as they decimate civilians in illegal wars. Would be kinda shitty of me to not hand it out to them too, right? I mean… what can they do about it? Not really THIER problem, right? We’re all being a little judgemental by suggesting Russia get out of Ukraine or Israel out of Gaza, right? Let em in eurovision. Let em in the Olympics.
Not sure who I am to give it but if im giving that cool guy a break, I may as well give you one too, despite you being a total cunt. Not sure why you care (REALLY wish you’d introspect on that though, is it possible the uncomfort that makes you wanna lash out is that you know at some level you, as an american, are uniquely positioned to save the world like hollywood told you your whole life was your birthright, and instead you’re on the internet mad at foreigners pointing out your country is mudering civilians? That discord must be HARD).
