The school shooting yesterday was a tragedy. Giving this shit any steam is just to distract from what the senate did yesterday
What’d I miss?
We say things that others find extremely objectionable all the time, and we expect to be met with strenuous counterargument — not violent reprisal.
Yes, that is why queer folks have to be ‘in the closet’. Because they might be debated.
Lol. Rest in piss.
Is it tho?
That’s an awfully liberal take from Jacobin. I expected better from them.
It is thoughtful and cogent and representative of those who believe in discourse, those who pursue nonviolent outcomes.
Non violence in such human interaction is a fabricated idea.
Violence is not only a punch is the face or a bullet in the neck. Violence can be political, institutional, verbal, administrative, monetary… all of which, used tremendously by the far right in the past and nowadays (it’s their prime language) with very real, dramatic consequences.
Non violence as a an answer is a myth put in your head. It was put there through violent means, and by violent people. Violent people who want to keep you afraid and docile.
Even « non violent » revolutions such as India’s understood very well balance of power and how to exert violence through other means than direct, physical violence.
Non violence in such balance of power does not exist.
Non-violence and violence exist; you can’t have one without the other. Remind me the next time you a) want to slap someone and b) decide another method (the non-violent one) would suit better. Non-violence is how good folk function day to day with every frustrating experience, and why life now is much less like that portrayed in westerns, where there just isn’t room enough for “both of us” in this town. Individually and collectively people choose non-violence all around you. Have you lost the forest for the trees?
