After several frustrating attempts with a manual pump, I gave in and bought a portable electric air compressor.

Yeah, some manual pumps are trash but I’ll never use an electric pump because one wrong bump and it’s toast. Plus, they’re heavy.

I think I’m being overly charitable, but there are some really awful products available if you don’t spend some time looking before buying.
There are some garbage ass pumps out there, but I’d take a good manual one over a battery powered pump any day. Cartridges would be after that, with battery powered at a distant third.
Where is this guy riding, needing repair kits but also high-tech helmet, lights and vests?
You should always have lights and a repair kit, maybe not a helmet light but they help for both seeing stuff and not getting hit by cars.
