I can see why Reddit needs to secure the user base. As not accounts proliferate they need to be able to demonstrate verified real users to their advertisers. Unfortunately for privacy, this will be widespread, in that case. I’m opting out.

My claim is that the idea of gender dysphoria spreads through social networks. There is a lot of evidence supporting this and should be your prior. I can’t help you if your search engine doesn’t work. I didn’t claim trans people don’t exist, and I don’t know why you think being rude to strangers on the internet is acceptable.

Please reflect on why this is such an emotional topic for you. I literally don’t care and merely acknowledged that it’s a very complicated topic. Perhaps you should spend less time on social media, as it is well established that trans issues were targeted by bad actors to inflame voters on the left and right last election; you may be a victim.

The diffusion of ideas through society is a foundational principle of sociology. It isn’t a trans vs not trans thing, it’s just the way society works. This doesn’t deny the existence of trans kids, rather there are internal and external pressures (to both affirm or deny) their identity. Like I said, this is a complicated topic, and to act like every teenager who raises their hand and says they are trans is definitely trans is delusional.

I shouldn’t need to provide you a citation, it should be your prior; ideas spread through society through a variety of mechanisms, this is sociology 101. You should be providing me with a citation showing me how this is the one idea that isn’t subject to diffusion.

It’s a very complicated topic where for some kids it’s the right choice, other kids are feeling this way due to social contagion, and it’s turned into a weird culture war. Reductive posts like this (edit: OP’s post) don’t help.

Have you considered the possibility that, if you have 2k bookmarks, this isn’t necessarily a self-hosting issue, but rather a bookmark hoarding issue :)

I think you’re under the impression that you will make choices for your cats; in reality, they will make these choices (and more) and you will have to live with it as their human :) you’ll find out whether they will allow you to use horse bedding, for example.

As kittens, just stick to cat food (no milk!). Generally wet food is considered healthier but perhaps more expensive. I feed my cats 2x/day out of canned wet food. You’ll have to see what they like. Generally stinkier is better. Cat food has is fortified with nutrients they might struggle to get otherwise so if you want to feed them something else like chicken as the basis you will need to supplement it with specific cat multivitamins.

If they’re indoor cats, a pair is generally a good idea so they have company. Also make sure you set aside 15 mins/day at least to play with and engage them. Generally I find my cats don’t play with fancy toys, rather they like tampons, strings and cardboard boxes.

With the vet, again it’s your call and you’ll figure it out with experience. Every vet clinic is different. I would start with the most convenient one, so that you’re incentivized to visit regularly. Your vet will give you a lot of information. Make sure to get vaccinations (edit: and spayed/neutered especially if allow them outside. Also I believe outdoor cats tend to kill a lot of birds/rodents unnecessarily so I think some cat owners put a bell on their cat collar but I don’t know).

You’ll probably want to keep them in a carrier in the car, unless you want them peeing in your car. It’s also possible they get car sick.

Cats tend to love high places, so if that’s something you can offer that’s great. Otherwise they may hide for the first few days and just come out at night so it’s fine to leave food out for them (edit: also if you choose to feed them kibble, make sure they have plenty of access to water as they can get dehydrated otherwise).

Students are now prompting the AI to make it sound like a student wrote it, or putting it through an AI detector and changing the parts that are detected as being written by AI (adding typos or weird grammar, say). Even kids who write their own papers have to do the latter sometimes.

Then the student could just ask the AI to simulate a thesis defense and learn answers to the most likely questions.

The funny thing is, they would actually learn the material this way, through a kind of osmosis. I remember writing cheat sheets in college and finding I didn’t need it by the end.

So there are potential use cases, but not if the university doesn’t acknowledge it and continues asking for work that can be simply automated.

People who track performance (like METR, a nonprofit) indicate that progress is, if anything, speeding up. Most people’s use case is so simple they can’t detect the difference. However for cases like complex problem solving, agentic tasks, etc you can in fact see significant progress happening. This should be concerning if you think the world isn’t ready for labor displaced by LLMs.
