I think it’s closer to #2, but by choice/convention. An episode I watched lately had a mention of a ship “matching our orientation”

It’s a common choice for adding noise to snitch lines (e.g. a webpage or email address for reporting that you think your neighbor is an immigrant or that your boss hasn’t fired your black colleague yet).

Lots of folks spam those channels, and the bee movie script is a meme text to spam it with.

Earlier in the story arc they got to their campsite by canoe. In the 80s it’s totally reasonable that they didn’t know when the rain was going to break.

Just like within actual government there’s supposed to be balance of power between different branches or houses, there’s this idea that the role of the press is to hold governments accountable.

(More of an ELI12, but that’s the gist of the idea)
