I still have CDs of old games. I can install and play the base version if they only require the code on the back of the jewel case. Some even allow private servers for multiplayer.
New ones? DRM, licensing servers, gameservers, download sources…as they disappear, so do the games because nobody can play them.
Well, yes. It’s no use just paying and not actually downloading it, for obvious reasons but also for the reasons I assume you mean, whereby once you have the files you’re no longer reliant on GOG to keep them available.
My opinion? Hardcopy.
