Explanation: On the left is the immensely corrupt Libyan dictator Muammar Gadaffi, who met his end fleeing from insurgents who he had initially provoked with his tyrannical behavior seeking personal wealth and privilege, but who ended up backed by NATO and the UN. They opted to bayonet him quite literally up his ass. An unpleasant way to go.
On the right is a depiction (admittedly very stylized) of the immensely corrupt Roman politician Crassus, who met his end trapped by Persians who he had initially provoked with his tyrannical behavior against the locals of Mesopotamia in seeking wealth and glory (to the point where his fellow Romans thought he was waging an unjustified war of conquest). They opted, at least according to some accounts, to kill him by pouring molten gold down his throat because of his legendary greed. An unpleasant way to go.
Thanks for the context. In that picture Gaddafi really looks like the fucking pussy he was.
Hmm hope we can have a repeat.
Play it again, Sam

It was the United States, not all of NATO
-
It was because Gadaffi removed the Dollar as Libya’s reserve currency and went back to gold
-
That’s not even vaguely true. The intervention was initially carried by France, the UK, and Italy, with US involvement being initially secondary.

… yes, I’m sure that the real reason wasn’t that Gadaffi was a longtime enemy of Western governments and a walking PR disaster who had provoked a massive rebellion against his rule that seemed poised to win (thus making it desirable for Western governments to speed the issue and curry favor with the winning side); it was that Gadaffi was stupid enough to make yet-another plan to damage Libya’s economy. That was the REAL reason the United Snakes of Amerikkka had to assassinate him, or whatever stupidity is being passed around since the last time this game of “idiot telephone” occurred.
Yeah and Neither NATO or Just the US gave a shit about Hussein, or The Shah, or any of the human rights abuses perpetrated by their friendly dictators until they were a convenient excuse to remove them.
ring ring I think it’s for you.

Right, human rights abuses were the justification for the Iraq War. Silly me, thinking the WMD lie was the justification.
Now we’re responsible for removing the Shah too? Wow.

This might be a shock, but:
-
Mossadegh was not the Shah
-
Mossadegh was not a dictator nor removed for claimed human rights violations.
-
The US and UK didn’t even admit involvement until much later, which would make “We did it because of X” a bit of a tough sell.
Yep, I deleted my comment because I reread the last sentence of yours. I certainly don’t believe the US overthrew their puppet dictator in favor of one of the few anti-imperial powers still standing
