I’m pretty sure they are supposed to be one time use, but I’ve successfully reused quick links on my Sram 11 and 12 speed chains for years. I regularly remove my chains and clean them.
Depends on the links as far as I know. Pretty sure you can safely reuse KMC chains at least 2-3 times.
KMC and some other brands sell links that are marked as reusable (up to something like 4 or 5 times), so yes, it’s fine. The ones that aren’t can be reused, but not safely.
If you want a truly reusable quick link, get Wippermann Connex, which can be reused pretty much “forever”, and they can be removed/re-installed without tools. I’ve had them on various bikes for at least the last 5000 km of riding, and reuse them quite often because I wax my chains.
It’s disappointing that the article doesn’t even mention Connex links.
KMC has always been my go-to for chains and links, but I’ve never heard of Wippermann: How many years have you been using them?
How many years have you been using them?
Well over a year now, through a Canadian winter, too. I’ve unlinked and relinked them dozens of times.
I only learned about them when I got into chain waxing.
Before that, I was replacing quick links fairly often, and even had one sheer apart mid-ride 😧
Wippermans are by far the best. Toolless to boot
