Careful, every American on Lemmy has about 6 or 7 thought-stopping cliches ready to defend their cowardly fucking inaction.

You probably also have access to food and basic infrastructure and services. That gives you incentive not to risk your life violently overthrowing the government.

The fact that you’re posting this means you’re not dead or in prison, which thought-stopping cliche will you use to explain your cowardly inaction?

Or maybe I don’t live in a shithole country?

You guys’ America-centric assumptions are really more in line with what we tend to see from MAGA chuds. Guess I shouldn’t be surprised that you aren’t fighting back too hard.

The people the rest of the world has been warning for decades that this very situation would occur if you kept doing what you were doing? The people who got belligerent and shitty when we pointed out the path they were on? Easy to criticize them? Yeah, it very much is.

This is Lemmy, the vast majority of Americans here lean hard left. We knew. What exactly were we supposed to do? Die immediately in an immature revolution? Magically devise the perfect argument to overcome a century of anti-left propaganda?

This reminds me of a recurrent thing in life: someone competes following a set of rules, and the other player doesn’t follow them. Of course that gives them an advantage.

There are two logical options to make the game fair again:

1)finding a way to make the second player follow the original rules

2)accepting the new game with its changed rules

No, you’re right, you’ve done plenty. You should feel very pleased with your effort. You deserve a rest, even. Have yourself a nap and I promise nobody will wake you up to tell you how goofy it is that you just called Americans on Lemmy “hard left” 😅

A bunch of us have had to live right next door to these people the whole time. Sometimes it’s so ridiculous that I think the simulation overseers are experimenting with the opposite of the simulated utopia from The Matrix that failed. Is there a level of absurdity that will get us to reject the simulation en masse?

Right, that’s what the rest of the world is waiting on Americans to do: quit their job.

“Do nothing” is so ingrained in the American psyche that when pushed to do something the only thing they can think of is doing even less.

If there’s a general strike, I’ll participate. Quitting my job and condemning my family to starve? Fuck outta here with that childish nonsense.

No one actually suggested you quit your job. YOU’RE the one that said that and I was pointing out the absurdity that that is the first and only place you go. Are you lost?

As long as you can point to a country you believe is doing worse there is no reason to want yours to do better. You are just mainlining that propaganda aren’t you?

“America is the greatest country on earth!”*

*Not due to actually being great in any way, just due to the fact that we believe other countries are at least slightly worse, and that’s good enough for me!

Do you imagine people in Nepal to have big savings accounts and investments in NVidia?

Truth is - if you are not bothered enough by the situation to risk your confort and way of life, then you are ok with the situation and accept it.

Honestly? People who are living paycheck to paycheck have MORE reasons to risk everything and FAR fewer excuses for allowing the status quo to persist. Who the fuck do you think should be burning shit down if not the people most victimized by it?
