He’s definitely also weak, he flip flops on every move. They would be further along if they weren’t handcuffed to a senile narcissist with one foot in the grave. OTOH they have only gotten this far riding his cult of personality, once he kicks it I have a feeling the whole party will collapse into infighting and not get anything done.

Oh Trump is definitely weak, but the progression of fascism under him is not. These two things can be true at the same time, especially because the issues he flip flops on (mostly tarrifs) aren’t actually necessary for the fascist takeover.

They would be further along if they weren’t handcuffed to a senile narcissist with one foot in the grave.

I’d say the opposite: Trump’s aggressiveness and recklessness has actually been a boon to MAGA (and a bane to everyone else). A more careful fascist might’ve actually had to win the midterms.

OTOH they have only gotten this far riding his cult of personality, once he kicks it I have a feeling the whole party will collapse into infighting and not get anything done.

I see this view a lot, but to be frank I think it’s naive. I mean, up in Canada fascists have rallied around Pierre fucking Poillievre (here’s hoping I spelled that right); these guys will take anyone as long as they can do their fascism. Fascism isn’t an artificial construct; it’s a political phenomenon that arises under certain conditions and no one person is necessary for its success once those conditions are met. That is to say: After Trump dies they’ll just find someone else, probably after a brutal and bitter internal power struggle.
