Chinese travellers are estimated to have cancelled hundreds of thousands of flights to Japan amid reports of suspended visa processing and cultural exchanges as a diplomatic dispute over Japan’s stance on Taiwan continues.
Under pressure from business groups, Japan has sent a senior diplomat to Beijing in an attempt to calm tensions after Japan’s prime minister, Sanae Takaichi, said her country could get militarily involved if China attempted to invade Taiwan.
Her comments prompted fury from China’s government, which issued warnings against Chinese travellers and students going to Japan.

Weird question: don’t Chinese tourists have a generally bad reputation? I’ve heard plenty of stories of them being obnoxious, trashing national parks and going off trail (and dying as a result), etc
In my experience, tourists from every country are obnoxious once there’s a crowd of them.
It’s just that there are many, many more crowds of Chinese tourists given their population so this becomes more obvious.
That was my experience visiting Yellowstone pre-pandemic. The biggest issue in my experience is they tended to not respect lines or barriers.
Americans don’t either. Rocky mountain national Park, like 40% of people were going off trail.
