But a large part of the argument made by Marx involves the existence of a bourgeois revolution to bring bourgeois democracy, which then brings about the conditions necessary for a proletarian revolution, both in the creation of a strong proletariat (by the development of capitalism) and the development of class consciousness (by the contradictions inherent in bourgeois democracy and the activity of the proletariat themselves within it).

I would argue that the entire “Capitalist dictatorship trying to develop capital but painted red” doesn’t ‘get’ Marx any more than “Anti-capitalist dictatorship trying to develop capital.” You can argue that the capitalist dictatorship is ‘closer’ to the development outlined by Marx, but by a Marxist analysis, what they’re doing is setting up the conditions for a bourgeois revolution.

And quite clearly, the current PRC is not interested in assisting a bourgeois revolution in overthrowing them. Few governments are interested in their own destruction.
