that said, first off, i would like to sincerely apologize for calling the genocide over in gaza a “feud”. i called it a feud because the countries of israel and palestine have been a war, but i realize now that me calling it a “feud” is sort of an understatement and is a bit insensitive. oh and i WASN’T pulling the ol ‘both sides are bad’ card - i strongly support palestine in this war in gaza.
secondly, i sincerely promise to act in good faith and learn a bit more when it comes to socialism/communism. i sincerely hope you forgive me.

Hexbear is run and populated by toxic extremists largely unable to deal with middle ground and a spectrum of opinion, last I checked. I’d consider this a fortuitous omen to block the whole instance and dust your hands off as a job well done.

I’d heard about them before, but prefer to reserve judgement until I see things with my own eyes, or at least directly see how they’re treating others.
Eventually, at my community, I posted a comic examining some of the various self-strife between Israeli folk, and from out of nowhere 3-4 Hexbear users who’d never taken part before materialised and began ranting about Israel and calling me and the community some pretty awful things. After that, I started paying a little more attention to their user comments across the Fediverse. Just… yikes.

that last part, i was venting my frustrations with hexbear - especially the more hardline admins and mods there. seriously!
it’s a Marxist/anarchist space, and tankie is not a meaningful term, it’s an epithet for punching left. if you’re expressing contrition maybe stop acting like every other social democrat shitter running around here.

I would not worry about it honestly. Anyone can create communities and I would not be to concerned if one is run by thin skinned folks. I mean banning you without discussion to me is I place I don’t want to frequent. Was using the word feud to cavalier. Well yeah. I mean we all realize how fucked the situation is but personally if I saw someone call it that I might comment but not sit there and think they are purposely trying to minimize it or something. I would just block the community and move on. Heck I consider being blocked a convenience to find out places I don’t want to frequent.

Stalin has been dead for over 70 years, and “tankie” is nothing but a terminally-online pejorative for anyone left of Sanders. Maybe spend less time worrying about people’s takes on Stalin. He was neither Jesus nor was he Lucifer, despite what a century of anticommunist propaganda has said about him.

At the same time, Stalin synthesized Marxism-Leninism, and oversaw the world’s first socialist state during its most turbulent period. The CPC rates him as 70% good, 30% bad, and this rating is roughly orbited by most communist orgs. Those who denounce Stalin entirely, also denounce the USSR, and existing socialism.
I don’t really concern myself with who runs things. I just treat the federation like the real world. If I like places I frequent them, if I don’t dislike places they will be in my rotation, if I don’t like them then I don’t hang at them.
