Expedition 33 coronation as expected.
Thing that surprised me the most was Wuthering Waves for Players Choice Award over Expedition 33, Dispatch, Silksong, Death Stranding, Ghost of Yotei, and KCD2. Literal complete stable of awesome games across genres lost out to a gatcha game. Are there just more gooner gamers than I thought? 🤔
Mega-hyped for Total War: Warhammer 40k
Flute guy killed it as usual!
What are your thoughts on the awards and show overall?

I can understand wuthering waves. I never in 10000000 years thought I’d be saying something like this about a gacha game, but wuthering waves is probably my favorite game in like God knows how many years. The combat is really fun, it all looks absolutely amazing on pc, the story is great even side quests and side stories (a freaking character side quest had me crying as a 40 year old man…) it’s really just a good game.
I’d honestly suggest more people try it, you 100% do not need to spend any money whatsoever to enjoy the game and its story. When needed you get “trial” characters set to the appropriate level to complete story stuff and they’ve actually made a main character who isn’t complete and utter dogshit. They’re good in many team compositions.
The only place you’d feel like maybe you want to spend is if you want to do the dick measuring sweaty gamer endgame fights at the hardest difficulty, but it’s still doable without them.
There is some very high quality writing and gameplay in the genre right now. A lot of talented people are working on these games. And generally speaking, yes, you don’t need to spend a dime to see the main content.
I tend not to recommend them because you never know who has a gambling problem (and sometimes people don’t know until they are exposed to it for the first time). There’s also the other odd quirk–not just in gacha, but in live-service and other self-insert media in general lately–where character romance is omitted from the game world because they don’t want to offend insecure people. Can make things feel flat at times.
If one knows they are fine with both of those issues, there’s a lot of great content out there.
That’s a fair point. They even got me for a while, I got too comfortable being ok with “supporting” the company since I loved the game so much and before you know it 6 months later I’ve spent like $700 on it…
My biggest complaint is not that they sell you stuff, it’s that they price everything so dam high… like spending $20 in these games should get you something significant in my eyes, instead you barely get a 10 random pull where you probably end up with crap. Screw that… with that said if I do get into one I will normally throw the game like $20 total purchasing a few things if they feel worth it. I am currently playing Chaos Zero Nightmare and the prices are so bad I haven’t spent a dime and don’t think I will. Its a good game otherwise.
Yeah, pound-for-pound, as far as collecting stuff goes, these games get crazy expensive. Some of them are more generous than others with the in-game currency outlays, but that can become its own problem with daily grinds.
