Never read a headline that said “General Motors factory worker accused of stabbing girlfriend” or “Trader Joe’s cashier accused of stabbing boyfriend.” What’s the relevance of including her profession / “employer” here?

Because it’ll get more people to open the article on the assumption that it’s an attractive young woman. Looking at pictures of attractive young women who are on trial for murder is an important first step when deciding (1) whether she did it, and (2) whether you can fix her.

Not to mention that the news story is just about a new trial date. Most stabbing cases don’t get news stories about new trial dates being set.

She probably occupies some space of ‘pseudo-fame’ where she’s famous enough to have a story written about her, but not famous enough for regular people to know her by name.

    “fatally stabbing”

They’re going with the battered wife syndrome in the defense but there’s been evidence of her repeatedly abusing him and he even said that he was going to die if he stayed in this relationship given the abuse he suffered.
