Are people still pretending the US is a Democracy?
I’m in the US, and no serious person that I know actually thinks that. Plus, a bunch of the non serious people keep saying inane nonsense like “We are a republic, not a democracy”, demonstrating that they neither know nor care what system we use.
The prevailing opinion, if not that the US remains as a functional democracy, that it once was functional as a democracy, but has become broken and in need of repair.
The pivotal question is when, if ever, did it ever even come close to fulfilling its own ideals as a democracy.
The US was founded on slavery and genocide. When elections were implemented, four percent only of the population was granted suffrage, propertied white men.
I always wonder at what particular point the US is believed to have become democratic, since its founders clearly maintained a deep enthusiasm for racism, sexism, and aristocracy.
The last time we were close to fulfilling is a democracy is when we were instituting civil rights, workers rights, and social security. Idk the 1990s was kind of weird and cool. It was the sweet fruit of all that work right before it would go to rot. We still support our democratic ideals at a local level. At least us small town people, who are too insignificant to attract the attention of an establishment party. We can still vote for our neighbors to run the show.
I see, I was using voice to text so there should be a comma after the first that. However even without it, it still doesn’t say what you’re implying. You’re having to remove words to make yours even marginally plausible.
These dudes are like the far left equivalent of Libertarians. They love their political theory and posturing, but have no idea how their theories are actually applicable in real life. I expect the majority of Tankies, like Libertarians, are young angry people who are trying to buck a system that has mistreated them. I certainly remember when I was young and had dumb ideas about how the world should work.
So glad china get rid of monarch so they could have a real dictator.
Your country pretends to be democracy while you vote for 2 capitalist parties bootlicking the rich.

American exceptionalism is alive and well.

Depending on your social status there’s good arguments to be made that the US has never been a functional democracy.

I guess, it’s always been a democracy amongst the oligarchy. Though actually I’m pretty sure that’s not true either.

I’ll bite, where do you know I live?
Why would I know that? I literally said I don’t know where you live.
You said people pretend that you don’t know where I live

Yes, well the comma makes all the difference between a statement that makes sense and one that doesnt in this case
Notice that they never deny it, they just deflect.
