Spying with James Bond in 007 First Light could challenge lower-end machines. Newly released recommended system requirements list a high amount of RAM for 1080p/60fps gameplay. A memory shortage resulting in higher costs have made upgrading PC specs a frightening prospect.
Steam hardware survey has like 50% shit-tier laptops though. Just 36.85% English users.
I think most gamers, especially the ones who built their own rig in the past 5 years or did any research before buying their prebuilt are gonna have 32gb minimum.
It’s the people in poorer regions that really get fucked by these kind of requirements, but the publishers often don’t consider them a significant revenue source for a AAA title.
The commenter you replied to just showed you the numbers. Most gamers do in fact not have 32gb of ram.
I was going to say something similar, but the person did originally say “modern gaming rig,” and I think it’s safe to say that not everyone in the survey has one of those
I do wish the data was more granular. Maybe there’s a way to get at it, I haven’t poked too much. I’m real curious how much data the big AAA companies have on hardware or if they also just look at Steam hardware surveys.
I know a lot of people around me (not a poor region) skimped on RAM because they had to save every penny for a GPU since the start of covid and only went 16GB thinking they’d add more later. Guess we’ll see how well the game does.
I would kill for the data to be much more granular. I’d love to see national or regional statistics.
You can filter by Linux and it’s 83% English speakers. Intel CPU speeds go from bottom of the barrel budget ghz to the highest spot listed on the charts. Linux may trend tech worker to an extent and around 21% is the steam deck, but that just makes the stats feel more like what i’d expect in the US and wealthy european nations.
The fact that Chinese makes up about 25% and Russian makes up 10% of the Windows survey should have a huge statistical impact on results. I swore those numbers were even higher before too.
What is the importance of those “English speaking” gamers over others? Why does it only matter what kind of hardware the “English speaking” gamers have?
Why dont we just source statistics from China and Latin America?
Beyond the fact that this franchise is literally British… these comments and the post are in English. If we were on a Chinese board I would want Chinese statistics. If it was Russian… etc etc.
Our knowledge of hardware is localized. The stream statistics are global. The belief that our friends and family and other gamers that we relate to are going to be penalized by a ram limit in a discussion in English is only relevant… to English speaking gamers…
I married into a Latin american family and have spent a lot of time in Latin American countries. More than most conversing in this thread anyway. I know the realities of trying to game in countries like Chile. Your best option is something like an Xbox with gamepass. PCs are just too expensive for AAA games.
