Note: Not my screenshot

It’s been over 7 years since the game was announced, and after being cancelled by Riot and bought back by the original devs, against all odds it is FINALLY playable!

The game was supposed to come out in an hour but it seems the devs released it early. I’ll wait and see some early gameplay but it looks like I might buy it on launch day. Feels surreal that the wait is finally over.

Don’t get me wrong, I hate steam because it inevitably will be a problem after some amount of years.

On the hytale side though, they literally aren’t on steam for the reason in a recent news article on their site:

This doesn’t mean Hytale will never be on Steam; right now, we don’t see the need for it, as we want to keep our launch closer to our community. It’s important to note that Steam currently doesn’t support some of our modding features; we will be in contact with Valve in the near future to see what’s possible.

Reading between the lines, with the emphasis i’ve added… the “modding features” they don’t support are paid mods. They want that creator club / roblox experience ASAP.

Yes, the whole reason they started on this game 11 years ago is because Mojang banned a whole bunch of MTX. Hypixel lost a lot revenue because of it (good, literally exploiting children) and went to make their own game.

Hytale will be drowned in MTX eventually.

I read about that and forgot about it. I knew riot picked these guys up for a while but that’s it.

The goal is monetization. It’s another minecraft clone… there’s so many amazing minecraft mods that don’t ask for your money and run on potato pcs (and have options that scale up to top tier gaming pcs) so I don’t know who this is really for, beyond someone just looking for shiny new toys.
