“Burning itself out” means it escalating to a point where somebody has no option but to go to war, either civil or international. Dictatorships don’t just decide democracy should be a thing. Trump and his cohort are wannabe dictators.

So the only question is do you want to fight now, or when it’s become worse. Fighting now will mean fewer people die in the conflict.
