It sure as hell matters and has mattered for centuries. If you’re white and wealthy, you have carte blache to do what you want to do essentially. If you’re poor, you’re not as stopped as often as a POC. If you’re not white, like clearly not white, you’re already mistreated in this country. If it didn’t matter we wouldn’t have needed the civil rights movement. We wouldn’t have to worry about them abolishing its legislation either. So yes, it matters a FUCKING lot.
