    Because he clearly, deep down, believes that good is inherent in most people, and he was hoping it was enough to reach them with his message.

    The look on his face is less in reaction to being assaulted, and more in heartbreaking betrayal by all those that simply sat there while it happened. While he spoke, while he was attacked, restrained, and removed illegally.

    That look was his heart raging against the dying of the light.
