    He’s always been like this

I am certain of it.  He was just more ignoreable back then.

His interference with the Thai cave rescue was a turning point but I think what changed was how the rest of us viewed him.

Before that, his dumb or stolen “inventions” were always just scams presented to his grinning employees, idiot techbros, reporters, and investors who always clapped and humored him. Everything the public knew about him was filtered through that glossy facade. In general most people seemed to think he was legit.

The “submarine” was the first time he presented an idea to people who weren’t ass licking corporate ladder climbers; people who had no time or patience for his bullshit and rejected it offhand. His butt was hurt so he started the public name calling which really made the news cycle. And we all know how the internet responds to that sort of thing.

Ever since then all of his scams, products and flashy presentations are always publicly dissected and ripped apart on the internet. His drug use and erratic Nazi emo phase seems to be a response that.
