    I finally checked out the etymology of armor/armour.

    Somehow, only British English spells it “armour”. Even the original French doesn’t spell it that way, but “armeure”.

    Usually the atypical spelling is post-Webster American, due to his attempts to make spelling simpler.

    In this case, no spellings match the original French/Latin.
