I can barely even react to Webb giving the Yankees 5 runs before the end of the 2nd because the unnecessary interviews are so distracting.
The commentators are asking Boone about his mom and calling Logan Webb Brandon.
“so commissioner, when did you fall in love with baseball?” OMG IM TRYING TO WATCH BAILEY BAT. FUCK YOU NETFLIX.
I just cancelled my Netflix last month without realizing they somehow bought MLB games for this season. But I ain’t even mad, I’ve been sailing the high seas forever so it’s nbd. For the record, Netflix should have absolutely nothing to do with live sports, and they’re overpriced as fuck. And Stranger Things 5 was complete dogshit 😤
In more relevant news, that’s my Ace! (until Gerrit comes back 😎)
Judge with the golden sombrero. Even gods can bleed
The only silver lining of the night. Felt good to watch. He wasn’t great in the WBC aside from the first couple games.
True. He did make some good defensive plays though.
I feel like baseball fans on Lemmy need to consolidate and make a concerted effort to sustain some regular discussion this season. Idt this community is the answer but honestly I haven’t been active in a long time so I’m still trying to get my bearings back. I’ll message you if I come up with a good plan
I think this was the only MLB game airing today. And I was intrigued to check out the Netflix broadcast for the first time, which was trash. The commentators did talk more about the game towards the end. But it was more corny and less focused than what fans are accustomed to. It’s possible Netflix could improve with time, and arrange less ridiculous interviews (like the one with Chisholm while he was on the field during game time). And actually discuss pitches.
The SF giants are my team. I was watching it on Netflix and needed to rage post and scream into the void how awful they were doing at presenting the game to fans.
All of the streaming services (and national broadcasts) do that crap. I hate the on field interviews. And then when the player makes an error while trying to do an interview in the middle of the fucking game… So dumb
Local broadcasts are always far superior. Yankees booth is usually great with Cone, O’Neill, and Kay. And they’ve been bringing in Girardi more lately, he’s really insightful too.
Well, I heard your scream into the void anyway. Baseball is really hard because people mostly just follow their own team and there’s so many games, but I feel like we could at least have a community on the fediverse to talk about the major events/plays/games through the season and hopefully it might grow in activity from there. I just don’t think this is the best server to set that up for various reasons, but there aren’t any great alternatives either. I’m brainstorming 😵💫
I really enjoyed World Baseball Classic, and I learned about many players from other teams, so that helped me appreciate baseball players, and learning their skill sets, more broadly than I did before WBC. And I found value in learning about “the competition” But that is only once every 3 years. The Olympics could have a similar unifying effect.
Seems like fans disappointment for Netflix’s coverage was universal.
Ya WBC was great in so many ways, very cool to see players from all different levels of professional play mixing it up
Goddamn I hate the interviews. The interviews are mostly unrelated to gameplay. I can barely watch the game or pitches. Get Bert the fuck off my screen.
