Keep coping. You sound like a child with your “a very unscientific statement”.

Religion is a delusion. They can’t all be right. Science your way out of that.

Religion is a belief that there is a higher power that rewards good and punishes evil. A place a person can look at the dark times in life to believe things will get better, and the world isn’t as dark and awful as it can feel. Religion is also not for everyone, and some use religion to lie and manipulate others. But someone looking to religion for guidance in a time when they feel lost isn’t some “mental illness”.

Religion is a belief that there is a higher power that rewards good and punishes evil.

Are you claiming all evil in the world is being punished and all good is being rewarded? What is good? What is evil? Are you aware that different religions across time and space had different notions of it? Are you claiming this omnipotent entity decided and some how bothered to communicate it to a human?

If I would have told you that this being and me spoke earlier, how would you respond?

Imagine being an omnipotent entity, and what you do for ages is meddling in human drama. Human centric much? What about different life forms? We are not the only intelligence in this planet. What about lifeforms on different in the universe? Are they also under the same scrutiny?

A place a person can look at the dark times in life to believe things will get better, and the world isn’t as dark and awful as it can feel.

Yeah, that is completely delusional. But even worst, it’s causing a lot of harm to others. Back to the earlier point - what if I told you that the omnipotent being told me religion is evil? I can find a lot of arguments to support the moral claim that it is evil and thus makes its practitioners do evil. Just so you could live in some little lie thinking you are better the all the rest.

Religion is also not for everyone, and some use religion to lie and manipulate others.

        See? You support evil doers

But someone looking to religion for guidance in a time when they feel lost isn’t some “mental illness”.

Of course it is, what possibly could be solved by clinging to a full blown manipulative delusion?

        Edit - some formatting

Are you claiming all evil in the world is being punished and all good is being rewarded?

No. I’m saying some people adopt the belief that there is a higher power of some kind and use it to guide their lives. I did not say it was correct or that it is how the world exists.

If I would have told you that this being and me spoke earlier, how would you respond?

I would be concerned for your mental stability since you suddenly started hearing voices, but if you were using this “contact with a higher being” to help yourself live with the human condition and better the lives of those around you, I would listen, understand that it is important to you, and move on with my life happy that it was making you a better person.

Imagine being an omnipotent entity, and what you do for ages is meddling in human drama. Human centric much?

You seem to be confused into thinking I am one of these religious people. But religion was made by humans, of course it’s going to be human centric, we are naturally egocentric beings. I don’t see any value in you trying to “whataboutism” me at the fact that there isnt, what like “religion for dogs” or something? If we ever find different life in the universe I wouldn’t be surprised if they had some form of religion as well.

Yeah, that is completely delusional. But even worst, it’s causing a lot of harm to others.

Having hope for a better tomorrow is dangerous and delusional?

Back to the earlier point - what if I told you that the omnipotent being told me religion is evil? I can find a lot of arguments to support the moral claim that it is evil and thus makes its practitioners do evil.

Then you would be committing evil actions in the name of an evil religion. That’s not what I’m trying to claim is a “good thing”. People commit evil actions for no reason at all, hell people commit evil actions for any number of reasons. People fight over sports. Should we condemn everyone who loves sports because sometimes some guys pick fights over whose team is better? No, we condemn those guys and we let the good parts of the shared experience of watching your team play continue to happen.

          See? You support evil doers

No, I am acknowledging that while I believe religion is beneficial to some people, like many things on earth, it has also been used as a tool by manipulators and liars to push their own agenda. But that can be said about anything. Spend ten minutes on social media and you can find someone trying to present their own twist on any world view as “the truth”

Of course it is, what possibly could be solved by clinging to a full blown manipulative delusion?

Having hope for the future? Looking out into the world and going “Yes it’s dirty and cruel but there’s beauty in it”? Or would you rather everyone be existential and moral nihilists and believe in nothing? We can all just sit together in the shit and go “it was always gonna be like this, nothing matters” together.

Or you can see someone whose loved one who passed away suddenly, and they’re finding peace with the loss because they believe that person’s soul is in a better place. And the person performs charity in the memory of the person they lost because they believe that person is still watching them from somewhere.

Sometimes religion is helpful, not all the time, not every example, but to just go “must be religion, must be evil” is a more close minded view than, well most religions.

There are people that have been and actively are in space looking at the earth, nobody is making that up, it’s just a simple fact, the earth is round. (Spheroid, if you want to be a pedant) There is no requirement of belief nor faith, just basic observation and understanding. Stupidity is quite literally the only reason to argue otherwise.

By your logic we can also reason that Odin is The All-father, and that Ganesha is the remover of obstacles, Xenu is the great destroyer, and that Zeus likes to bang as a goose, or indeed that even Harry Potter actually being The Boy Who Lived, or that Roland is chasing The Man In Black forever to sustain The Wheel Of Ka and keep reality intact. Zealoutry is synonymous with myopia. Faith is foolish and self serving.

To say we cannot reason Christ is God because many people believe he is not is not a sound claim as what the many hold true may not always be true.

Yeah, sure, faith. Faith is for fools and children.

Also, apply that last bit to your own blindly regurgitated statements, you selective scotoma ridden fuck.
