Hey everyone. I was the Director of Video Production for the Gravel Institute until it folded back in 2022.

Several Gravel Institute colleagues and I have been hard at work developing a new series of videos with Jacobin Magazine, and our first new video has released today, featuring OG Gravel presenter and brilliant historian Matt Karp.

Things are pretty terrible in America (and the world at large), but they don’t have to be.

the american dream was only true for a privileged few and it’s death is the growing awareness that it was only a dream.

we are capable of making the american dream a reality; but our adherence to our oligarchical systems, from both the american left and right, guarantees that it will remain a dream.

Asad Haider makes a good point about this in his book Mistaken Identity, namely (IIRC) that the “middle class” has always been an illusion to propel labor and to divide the populace along lines of race and class (which is one of capitalism’s goals). Separately, if we look back at Henry Ford’s famous “five dollars a day” incentive, it wasn’t without a catch— his Sociological Department inspected every aspect of workers’ lives, including their families, to ensure they were appropriately American (white picket fence type stuff, down to nutrition and children’s educational performance). It’s been the white male mythos forever, and needs to be flushed down the toilet.
