Have you opened it up yet? I think that if it uses a standard connection then you can probably get it working with Gentoo without any issues, or any distro really. Just buy a card that you know the distro has drivers for. It will never work with Mac OS again though once you swap the hardware, unless you swap it back. It doesn’t sound like you care about that, so it’s a non issue.

Forewarning, Apple solders some components to the board. They’ve done that with RAM before. So, you may need decent desoldering skills to successfully swap it. Otherwise it should be pretty easy. Those mobile NIC are usually really easy to swap. Un-tape the wire that serves as an antenna, remove one small screw, and pop them out. Reverse it to reinstall.

The hardest part is probably going to be getting the case open, but I’m sure there are YouTube videos for that. Take a piece of paper and trace the MacBook. Then tape every screw you remove to the paper from the spot that you removed it from. For example, if you remove a screw from the top right corner, then tape the screw to the top right corner of the traced shape on the paper. You can also just skip tracing it and treat the outside edges of the paper as the outer edges of the case. Anyways, the taping method is how I used to keep track of where every screw goes when I was working on laptops.

All this facial recognition technology that is popping up as breaking news was on demonstration in the Microsoft visitor center 10 fricken years ago. Over a decade ago they could already assign an ID to a person the first time they were seen, accurately estimate their height, weight, ethnicity, age, and even mood, and create a persistent profile for them across locations. That was a decade ago when they had it on display for visitors, so it had actually been available for much longer. Imagine what they’re doing now.

Except now the Republicans will be called “Reds”, and the Democrats will be “Blues”. The Greys are this new Nazi fuck’s party.

I’ll save y’all from having to read about this villain. He’s not referring to actual ethnicity. I think the 16GB requirement is ridiculous, considering Microsoft’s own laptops and Surface Pros don’t come with 16GB standard. They seem to be trying to drive sales through intentional obsolescence of adequate hardware.

Not everything is a comparison. It’s entirely possible to discuss one new negative thing about Windows without comparing it to the worse things you dislike about Windows. I don’t have an old computer, I have a wicked fast i7 12700kf, 32GB of DDR5 4800, 2TB Samsung 970 NVMe drive, Auoris RTX 30170 ti, and a z690 Auoris pro MOBO. That doesn’t mean I want my frickin OS gobbling up my resources. I bought powerful components for my uses, not for Microsoft to calculate how to best serve me ads on my computer, using my computing power. Oh, and I do use Linux.

That’s why I said minor. Design companies, and plenty of website companies use Macs, but that’s a small percentage of overall businesses.

Game pass for Xbox? Yeah, I think that’ll be a no, but someone on Reddit said that you can stream it if you have good Internet.

Idk about you, but I want an OS that is efficient, not one that gobbles every resource I have.

Microsoft itself doesn’t even sell their own laptops with 16GB RAM standard, it’s always an expensive upgrade.
