Your character would get caught. Mainly because electronics boards are absolutely covered in parts made from all over the world. Each one of those parts is batch numbered, if not labeled with a serial number. If your main character wasn’t caught from being the only person with a purchase history that matches the equipment used, they would certainly be caught using forensic analysis of the identifying marks on the devices.
Your character’s best bet is to realize that the point of sabotage is not to destroy a resource, (complete destruction is a bonus), but to make the opponent either realize that they would need to commit more effort to protect that resource than it is worth, or get your opponent to commit that effort, wasting their time and resources.
Real life example : Ukraine blew up part of a useful bridge in Crimea with a truck bomb. The bridge has been restored to working order, but now Russia has to check every single truck that goes over the bridge very thoroughly. They’ve limited the maximum size of the trucks as well. The total flow of material over that bridge had been choked, and Russia is doing all the work to choke out their own asset, and they will need to continue to do this for the rest of the conflict, or the bridge will get blown up again.
So, back to your fictional character… He doesn’t need to devise a sophisticated attack to destroy all the cameras, he just needs to be part of an ongoing uncoordinated campaign of random attacks. Either the camera owners step up hardening their devices, which increases the cost and decreases the number they can deploy, and their usefulness, or, the government entities that use the cameras will need to deploy more police presence to protect the cameras, invalidating the benefit of having the cameras anyway.
Mobile broadband. I promise you, if you go around jamming cell towers, you’re going to get the feds on your ass real quick.
The residents need to work on an election that exempts anyone who doesn’t come out against this bill from being in the government.
It won’t. AI doesn’t fire anyone. AI doesn’t replace anyone. AI shows the potential of doing the same job as a human, so another human fires that person and replaces them with an AI.
The CEO isn’t going to fire himself. His “replacement” with AI is going to be him using it to make decisions, and feeling so smart about “using all the tools available”, but he’ll still be there to collect a paycheck.
And Amazon makes about 2500 dollars every second. If we taxed them at my tax rate, that would be ~1000 dollars a second. So every minute that Amazon is taxed at the same rate as the rest of us would pay for services for a homeless person. There are ~180,000 homelsee people in CA, we could pay for 60 of them in an hour, 1440 a day, and all of them in 125 days. From taxing one company’s current profits at the same rate that the rest of us are taxed.

Similar to how there is nothing “stopping” a web server from having a 192.168.x.x address, but we have a standard that blocks off those addresses to be used inside of your own network.
It’s been a while since I’ve had to do a game system setup on an old TV, (like damn near 20 years) but I think you used channel 3 because it was a channel reserved for local communications, so there would never be “TV” on that channel. Your VCR connected to the TV with a coax cable, and if you wanted to have “TV” plugged in at the same time, you either needed a TV with multiple coax inputs (I think it was common to have 2, one for VCR, and one for satellite/aerial antenna) or a coax splitter. Early on, those RCA plugs weren’t built into a lot of TVs, so you needed the VCR to inject that signal onto coax for the TV. Lots (if not most/all) VCRs would let you switch the channel used in the settings, I think mainly to cover other regions where channel 3 was not standardized.
Honestly, the way you become ungovernable is the same way the government becomes unaccountable to the people.
Passive hostility. Slow roll everything. Throw a wrench in every system you can. Stop at all stop signs and railroad tracks, and wait 3 seconds to confirm all other traffic has stopped. Make every request in writing, using snail mail, then call every day (or multiple times a day) to see if they got your requests. Demand everything communication to you is done in the slowest and most expensive way for them possible. File FOIA requests for everything. Cop pulls you over, take a while to find your license and registration. Become sludge, become a quagmire. Make anything and everything the government does to you a huge use of their time and effort. Embrace your inner old man “get off my lawn” energy.
TVs had channels?
I’m old enough to remember Saturday morning cartoons, but seriously, it feels like TVs don’t really have channels anymore, and instead just have thousands of shitty streaming apps.
We just let Nazis and Confederate go back to being regular people… And we still have Nazis and Confederates today, because the punishment for fucking up everything was just being told to be quiet about it for a little bit.
Let’s change that. Don’t let magats and trump supporting orgs off the hook this time. Make them lie in the bed they made, just once, and let’s see if it works out differently.
There are always going to be hitler simps. Humanity is diverse enough that some percentage of the population will be fucked up in the head enough to think that genital herpes is a divine gift. You’re never going to influence those people. The goal is to make the everyday man level with the fact that they voted 3 times to have concentration camps and unparalleled corruption in this country. They should never be able to forget it, they should have to live with the shame of those decisions for the rest of their lives. Most of the people involved in this aren’t monsters, they were just fearful little morons, and they need to fucking know it so that they can try to do better next time.
The things you mentioned probably aren’t the problem. It’s not hard or expensive to setup secure remote access for systems.
The real problem is that a lot of this very expensive and very specific infrastructure equipment is also very old, and frequently does not support newer and more secure protocols.
