Yeah. Idk why some people think the goal was to kill reddit.

A lot of us are consciously being more active here than we ever were on reddit. Over at discord, a few people are actually doing stuff that helps promote lemmy/kbin like listing communities that migrate, helping out new users, etc. It’s amazing to see people just working more than they did to make this small community successful. I’m not gonna waste that.
Yeah, Connect shows it too. But in my experience, at least with connect, it’s not reliable. The value changes (sometimes drastically). I noticed this early when my score went from ~80 to ~40 and checked if I had any comments/posts that were suddenly heavily downvoted (there were none).
Esit: Just checked with wefwef - points aren’t even the same between apps.
Edit 2: here’s a short discussion that touches on what I’ve mentioned.
We don’t have karma, so up/downvotes shouldn’t really matter to individuals. But I agree it would be great to have incentives to help out the owners.
What about custom stuff? Like custom emojis, themes, fonts, etc? Those aren’t really necessary but still gives you something in return. Or anything similar, really. I’m worried about awards having an effect like the karma system.
If I wanted FB content, I’d join FB. Same goes for Twitter, IG, Tiktok, etc. Do people really think Meta is out to kill Twitter? I think it’s more to use ActivityPub to get data from people who do not use (or rarely use) their services.
And no, they don’t need you to install their app. That’s just a bonus. Why do you think they haven’t included the EU yet?
True. That’s Reddit’s goal though, not the protestors’. I think they’d rather the protestors leave, tbh.
I did go back for r/place, but I haven’t touched reddit since. For me, the goal was/is to find a decent alternative so I won’t have to put up with reddit. I found it so that’s a win for me. Although I’m not gonna lie and say i may still visit for some info that I won’t be able to find someplace else (reddit has acquired tons of useful information over the years, unfortunately).
