I finally switched to AMD on my main desktop. Holy crap does it just work. I went straight for hyprland over my previous XFCE based desktop.

I enjoy tinkering so having some programs that just work and some that need a little push is great for me. Gaming is pretty easy these days - games that straight up don’t run I just don’t buy, and protonDB or even the proton issue tracker and wineDB for tips and tricks.

However with DEs I tend to set one up, and keep it how I set it up. I had XFCE for a total of 3 years with no changes. Hopefully I can do the same with Hyprland. I usually only try a new one when reinstalling Linux.

In a same but more drastic vein, you’d have to chop me up and shit In my corpse before I switch back to windows on my home PCs, it’s bad enough I have to use win10 at work imo (I ain’t installing win11 there untill I’m forced to)

At one point it was the top dog - this was before google was even in the browser market mind you. Then they entered and used a lot of… Shall we say interesting marketing practices to usurp firefoxes dominant position - it wasn’t all due to chrome being better.

If you’re the only one who has that issue, or it’s very uncommon, then it’s more likely a software or hardware configuration issue or some corruption on your systems part.

Just saying this, when I used to run windows, weird bugs like that as a cue to do a complete reinstall of windows. Usually would fix every problem I’d been having with every app to date.

Even now deleting everything associated to Firefox and reinstalling the app would probably fix it. The other thing to do is to keep an eye on the behaviour of your browser after installing extensions. Sometimes extensions themselves can cause weird problems.

Honestly that would be great - make the head unit similar to a car from '07/'08 and then if we want to upgrade it wity something aftermarket, we can. Then we can choose what bells and whistles we want.

07/08 really was one of the best eras for car interior, because the head units weren’t usually integrated into the dash, meaning you didn’t have to replace trim pieces with your unit in order to upgrade the damned stereo.

A lot of these large over employed places don’t hire for the extra Labor. They hire because it’s a way to prevent competition. Why would an employee leave to join a competitor or create a competing start up company if he’s being paid well to do next to nothing?

The only problem is that’s only financially viable when interest rates are low and investors are willing to give out cash like it’s candy.

There’s no way windows would’ve deleted your dual boot partition, your Linux bootloader? Yes ive seen it do that a hundred times over, but I have never seen it overwrite an entire Linux EXT4 partition. The only time it would do that is if you installed it after installing Linux and did a reccomended install instead of a custom install.

The one thing I wish google never did was introduce SafetyNet without enabling us a way to essentially say “I modified my own phone, so let me use my damn banking and tap-to-pay apps without issue” and reenable it.

In fact they’ve actively made safetynet more invasive by adding CTS profile matching alsongside basic attestation, with a system for telling what phones are compatible with the new profile matching so you can’t force disable it.

If they never added that I could’ve bypassed basic attestation and gotten google wallet back. But no. The most I can get back is banking and Pokemon GO. But there’s still a risk one of them will decide to use CTS and therefore making it impossible to use that app on my current phone, all in the name of “security”

At work I wish they were using git. But we got SVN. How I long for the ability to use pull requests. But tortoiseSVN has some nice features (I’m stuck with windows over there) even if it’s lacking in overall functionality.

I wouldn’t say rust is harder, just different. There aren’t really many languages that are safe in the way rust is safe… Ive done a bunch of intermediate rust tutorials and i actually got the hang of it pretty quickly
