Welcome to the world of business. First time here huh? Might wanna strap in, this is pretty harmless when it comes to capitalists and its by-products.

Technology@lemmy.world•Bullying in Open Source Software Is a Massive Security VulnerabilityEnglish
1224·2 years agoIt’s probably far more common than most people realize. Open source software doesn’t automatically make it secure, and in many cases can be less secure than closed source as it’s just one or two people doing it for free.
Much easier to be tempted to do something wrong or to get others to help in and take the weight off.

231·2 years agoAnd someone recently told me the Xz exploit doesn’t matter because no developer is stupid enough to install beta releases to prod systems lol.
Laziness and/or low skills leads to a lot of IT failures.

Games@lemmy.world•Gameplay mechanics were also a lot better with more replayability.English
1·2 years agoGames were definitely buggy and I honestly think people forget how much better the quality is nowadays.
I also think there is something to it just being the 90s or so and not having much choice. If you only have one game to play then of course you’re going to replay it to death. If I have a steam library of 1000 games then I’m much less likely to.
A lot of this is just nostalgia for the past and the environment as opposed to games being any better.

Maybe you haven’t actually researched this enough?

3·2 years agoThe real question is why the fuck is this guy passing for two password managers if not more, especially if he isn’t even using one?
No I wouldn’t pay for the services of someone else when I can get it for free.
I’d pirate it if I could though?
Gmail is still good for me at least. Does everything I want, doesn’t need new features and I don’t see ads or anything.
What more would I get from someone else? I’m not going to pay for privacy at end of day.

Hahahahaha.
In 5 years time they’ll whittle the pledges down a bit.
In 10 they’ll remove it altogether.

Technology@lemmy.world•Why Bluesky Remains The Most Interesting Experiment In Social Media, By FarEnglish
82·2 years agoI get wanting a safe space from persecution.
But echo chambers are dangerous and can really distort your reality. I personally find going from a safe space/echo chamber to reality very jarring and much more conflicting than from a relatively safe space with some conflict to reality.
By shutting it all out I’d argue you are risking hurting yourself unless you can guarantee a safe space in every aspect of life which is very difficult.

Reading into blahaj.zoje more, plenty of queer folk are friendly and supportive, but plenty are also pieces of shit. Sometimes you may also not realize if you create an echo chamber what is acceptable and what bleeds into extremist rhetoric.

102·2 years agoYep. He was the Elon Musk of those years. Great at marketing but an asshole to work for and likely would have started spreading his insane crap at some point to the masses.

Technology@lemmy.world•Twelve years after the death of Steve Jobs, the cracks are starting to appear at AppleEnglish
8215·2 years agoHe was very much the Elon Musk of his times, and it’s very possible he would have gone down the same route of extremist views and decisions that completely failed because of his egoism.

Technology@lemmy.world•Solid: Your data, your choice.English
151·2 years agoSome interesting points, and some things I disagree with.
Firstly it’s annoying he keeps calling it his idea and trying to enforce this concept that the current internet needs to align with his original goals. That’s stupid and ignores that things will go where they go, he can’t control them.
So his first point about centralisation being an issue isn’t that big a grievance. But his second point rings true - the issues around our data and advertising have grown significantly and the Web is getting much worse as a result.
I actually think the solution is just government needs to step in and regulate it, along the lines of what the EU is doing. Realistically I think that’s the only solution that’ll help. Doing some grassroots movement and hoping it picks up steam is just unrealistic. Like looking at Lemmy and Mastadon - they’re great but at this pace they’ll never take over the other giants in the space. You need someone to step in and force the change.
So Tesla’s entire strategy Elon was working was just abandoned.
Continues down the pathway that Tesla is just going to fade to irrelevance.
