A LOT more Twitter ragebait, but not an astronomical amount more than what the site already had. /r/all was largely just many clones of /r/funny wearing a mask, or clonea of WhitePeopleTwitter (ragebait central) wearing a mask.
Sad to see AccidentalRennaissance also joined the ranks as yet another /r/funny clone.
I read that this was stated entirely as a joke, and I read that 2 months ago in the middle of people looking for pathetic excuses to not stop using reddit.
I thought Lemmy would have stopped propagating it without a source.
It’s a bad idea to assume everyone in the field is of a similar mindset and philosophy. There are a LOT of people who genuinely want to make the world worse and see things like adblocking as piracy.
In fact, I’ve met people who hate the concept of Open Source and want things to be closer to creative fields. They’re shortsighted of course, greedy. But the basis doesn’t change the outcome. Yes, it’s blatantly their desires to “own” a piece of code the same way musicians often own a movie’s score and get licensing fees on them that led that path. But they still walked it and they still exist and they’re still out there, hoping for the day they get to go against you.
Yup. The vast majority of internet users NEVER:
Customizes their web experience
Uses apps almost exclusively
Navigates beyond the first page/screen
How will they react to this?

Yeah, I can imagine a fork of chromium existing that takes all the data and does the rendering pipeline “”“normally”“”, but then on the side does something completely different and shows THAT to the user, while giving the server an idea that nothing is wrong and what it is doing is just normal chromium stuff.
But such an idea will be done entirely by enthusiasts, slowly, on an obscure basis. For the majority of users, that will never even be a conceivable notion of something they can do with the internet. Itll never be something you see on a top, mainstream browser.

Shit man, this would ruin even the small internet. I won’t even be able to cheat on dragcave. And most of what I was doing was keeping a tally of my collection since the site doesn’t do that. But there’s no way page modifications wouldn’t be caught and punished no matter what they actually do.
So basically, anyone consuming the internet in any shape or form other than the intended by corporate owners is automatically dead in the water.

Should have left a link to a community on lemmy or kbin or discord or steam or clubpenguin forum or a listing for a pink toy car on amazon and also quiet quit.
People within the community would slowly realize the mods were gone and its most active users would realize it had a new home. The inactive, uncaring or inattentive ones, well, they didn’t pass the test.
They did and it was visible, since the admin account name would be on those pixels.
And if people DO start being problematic, reddit mods will just start erasing things by hand. They were spotted doing it last year.
Honestly, the correct way to protest would be to just spam KBIN and Lemmy everywhere in /r/place.

I vote to write this reasoning at the very top, on the sticked topics when it happens. Like, literally just write “Because Facebook is evil” and don’t elaborate.
Plus, if someone shows up being a concern troll on the point, they will laser focus on it, taking the bait, we can all just block the person, a world improved.

Bullshit. Threads’ algorithm will severely deprioritize external posts. It already heavily favors sponsored instagram accounts as is. You’re not being smart by putting porn on Threads through a Mastodon instance. Their AI will take whatever you have that’s tame and refuse to show what’s dirty. And if you do too much dirty, well, being shadowbanned on Instagram is a fucking super common story as is.
All this idea achieves is doing content charity for Facebook of all things. Defederate. It’s the only correct move.
