The article makes some good points. Most people downvoting it probably just see a title that attacks their favourite game distribution platform, if there even is such a thing.
Personally, I treat Steam like a rental service, because that’s what it is. Meaning I exclusively “buy” games on Steam at deep 80-90% discounts. So, when the enshittification inevitably hits the fan, I can jump ship without feeling like I’m loosing too much.
Gitlab requiring a phone number verified account to report bugs kinda turned me off of that platform. Never used Codeberg but heard good things.

That’s like what, 2% of online users globally? Let’s say pirates are marginally more tech savvy, so maybe 10% of pirates? If their plan works and they can get google to block access to all sorts of streaming and torrenting sites, that will massively reduce the numbers of people accessing illegal content.
Is that even feasible? I mean wouldn’t there instantly be dozens of chromium and firefox forks with the list redirected or removed?

The EU is currently pushing for the criminalization of all encryption mechanisms under the umbrella of rampant pedophilia. At the same time there’s a massive push to speed up the process for an EU-wide eID. Anyone heard of the chinese social credit system? No need to read up on it, we’ll be living it in less than 5 years.
Objectively, these three statements form a paradox. At least one statement has to be false.
