I have email addresses under Outlook (old personal account), Gmail (study provided email), Exchange (work) and Proton (main personal account). I also actively use the calendar feature in my client, which is sync’d up to my Nextcloud instance.

Just having it all under Thunderbird is so convenient and it feels more private. It’s also an entirely consistent UI between accounts

Personally I’d like this to be a toggleable feature like Reddit has (had?), but otherwise, yeah seems like an obtuse change, I don’t understand the why behind it.

It was that very reason that I didn’t take regular backups of my iPhone 7+ at the time, and then the bastard thing just died completely, losing very precious photos and videos. Never an iPhone again after that. I love being able to just plug a USB flashdrive into my Pixel to easily transfer photos over to a more reliable medium, although in more recent times I now have a server for this.

And to think the physical bits on that floppy still would’ve been invisible to the naked human eye.

Yeah, I believe that was a change they made not long after shafting 3rd party apps. I had a couple older iOS devices with their own older versions of third party apps, and that change effectively made any post with a Reddit uploaded image unviewable. Incredibly infuriating and I can’t understand the logic behind it either.

I will say that further to that, a few years ago Imgur made a change that does the same damn thing if it detects you’re on mobile. Unless you tick “Show Desktop Site” in your browser, it’s impossible to actually standalone view a direct image.

I work at an MSP and while it wasn’t LastPass, when you search “Microsoft Authenticator” in the app store there’s a similar looking Authenticator app that’s also blue, and because it’s an ad it shows up first. Had a user install that and was confused why they weren’t able to get MFA working.

I’m not sure what does and doesn’t control it, but I’ve installed nano on some Linux distros and it has no syntax highlighting at all, then other distros (currently using LMDE) just have it by default.

I was pleasantly surprised by how good the error messages are in Rust though on compile time. I agree that having an IDE flag them before I compile is much better though.

I thought so but as I’m not a huge vim user myself, I thought maybe vim had some error detection like VSCode that could be set up and that’s what you meant.

Well, in my defense I just wanted to initially try out Rust and on this particular computer, I don’t have any IDE set up on it yet. However, definitely seems like an IDE is in order for me haha

Someone who uses Apple products chiming in, you’re right on. I have a magic keyboard which I occasionally use with my iMac (although I’ve been using Logitech’s peripherals more recently and been extremely happy) and if I put the politics of it all beside me, I don’t care. I’ll just grab my lightning cable to charge up my keyboard once a month.

It just seems to me that Martin is arguing on technicalities. Ultimately for the end user, regardless of the why behind parts not working when swapped, the parts are not replaceable, and Apple does not make the required tools available (such as calibration software) so that third party repair can be done properly. It’s still anti repair for the end user.

Right, because swapping cameras, displays, or batteries on a Pixel or Samsung permanently remove functionality with no calibration software made available.
