I would legit use it. For-profit dating sites suck

Good luck turning off the corporate AI’s scraping your data from whatever websites you use to profit off of it!
Join the dark side! We have penguins!
No, the solution would be for every app to be able to licence the music without any exclusivity, making them compete over the features their apps and services have instead of on the music itself. Video streaming is an oligopoly right now, which can be just as bad as a monopoly.
If a friend asks me to help with something, I don’t removed and moan about my unpaid labour. Fuck that, they’re my friends and I wouldn’t take the money even if offered. That’s just what friends do. The same applies to if I wanted to do something nice for them, like sending them a cool mixtape I made. That’s how you build communities! Focusing on payment like you do reduces everything to capitalism but with even less empathy and humanity.
As other people have said, it doesn’t really matter as long as it helps solve climate change. Boo hoo, western corporations didn’t get to overcharge for stuff, big deal.
Oh, I totally get you! I hate shopping as well, even though it’s a necessity. In fact, I dislike it so much that I’m actually learning to make my own clothes. I realise this isn’t for everyone and that not everybody has the time, but I’m sure there’s stuff that you can do on your own that you may actually enjoy!
Have a nice day!
I’m not sure this applies to stuff like ads. Like, if you always prioritize foss and ethically sourced products, ads can’t really persuade you to buy certain things. And you make those decisions by doing research and buying local, or even better, making as much stuff as you can yourself.
Still, it sucks that they’re pushing them so hard on everyone. I tried to see the appeal, but I can’t stomach short form content at all. I get whiplash!
We’ll keep saying that can’t happen here right up until it happens
I can’t believe people come to Lemmy of all places to defend Twitter and Musk. I’ve come here a month or so ago when the reddit news broke, but damn, it changed so much these past few days. I kind of already miss Lemmy as it was.
It’s not free even with an adblocker allowed. Google still takes my data.
Idk fam, if someone has to take my data, I’d much rather it be the EU than corpos. Of course, I’d prefer nobody take it, but it is what it is.
Agreed. As someone not into microblogging, I just wanted to check what Mastodon was about when the Twitter drama went on, but couldn’t be bothered understanding federation just to check a site out.
I tried like 4 or 5 instances before coming to lemmy.ml, but none of them were taking applications anymore. Finding even those was a hassle, since all I got was a list of domains without any details as to what the instance is about or if they allowed newcomers.
Now that I’ve setup everything, Lemmy does seem like nice alternative to Reddit, but as someone from the outside, all of this is daunting.
I think we have 10-15 years or so left before the internet becomes totally unusable due to ads, paywalls and general bad design all over the place.
As someone who doesn’t know much about China aside from the high competitiveness of their academic environment, I’m curious as to what sort of issues your friends face due to surveillance? Does it affect their day to day lives? Or does it just foster an atmosphere of “be careful what you say”?
