That’s capitalism for you. They’re not interested in making things better, they’re interested in making more profit.

It’s one thing to regulate foreign corporations and you don’t see me making a case against the EU for regulating Apple or Google. You see me saying this isn’t about data collection like they say, it’s about preserving US power in the software space. The US is completely within it’s rights to block TikTok but you don’t need to lie to me and say it’s for security. The servers are located in the US, there’s no real evidence China has done anything illegal and if Google did the same thing and sold the data to China it would be fine. This whole issue is a bunch of individuals sucking on billionaire tech giant toes.
I appreciate you beating the dead horse, especially with all the sources.
I don’t use TikTok and I don’t think anyone really should but if we’re going to ban TikTok for data collection then there are a lot of platforms that need to be banned. We know the 2016 election was fucked with through Facebook and not a damn thing has been done
It’s always so sad watching companies complain about not making enough money while execs are paid ludicrous amounts of money.
So just enough to cover what it payed the CEO last year? ($192 million)
Li-ion cells, computers, solar panels… all of these are american inventions that capitalist entities moved to China to maximize profits.
It’s really just a matter of time till Chinese manufacturers set up in Mexico and the US will have to accept Chinese EVs because of NAFTA. The US also has lots of range anxiety about EVs that I don’t see as much in other markets. Being 120v and sprawling with limited government willingness to build infrastructure, with no requirements for rentals to add chargers makes a perfect storm for that fear.
It’s technically a heat pump but it only cools and can’t switch to heating the space. It’s a fucked up way the American HVAC system has done things for decades.
Totally agree. I’m not trying to say terms should have no meaning but that the difficulty distinguishing the two can be pretty easy because of how similar they are.
In capitalism as long as there isn’t a way to keep wealth from passing down each generation it is effectively just like nobles. I don’t see much of a difference between the two if both are systems of inheriting massive land or assets that allow you to exploit the lower classes to perpetuate your status.
It’s meant to be an evolution of feudalism as the people creating capitalism are effectively the remnants of power from feudal society. There could be absolutely no industry and it would still be the system the non-royal but powerful would select.
Look at the transition from the articles of confederation to the US constitution and the focus on the creation of currency in article 1. The “rights” people talk about were pushed for by the opposition to the constitution. The US constitution created effectively a capitalist version of the British empire and is analogous to the house of commons/lords/king. There was no term for the presidency, it could be for life and federal senators weren’t even voted for.
I’d argue it’s effectively just an iteration of feudalism.
Capitalism is just feudalism with more steps, of course as capitalism completes those steps it will feel like feudalism. Wealth can’t grow infinitely yet in the attempt to do so our basic needs have been withheld from those who need.
I’m just wondering what the hell they’re expecting to teach this AI off Reddit user data. Reddit has been scraped for years and most of what could have been learned has already been used I’d assume.
Reddit has been more and more video based lately and it feels to me like it is becoming a less algorithmic version of TikTok.
Unless they’re owls as they’re nocturnal. Blacksky doesn’t have the same vibe though.
I don’t understand what you’re saying because I never said they were.
Corporations break the law all the time and typically it’s just an operational expense.
But management makes all the decisions and having everyone physically accessible to their need for control makes them feel better.
People having to get used to people is common. If they can get used to their uncle talking about how the earth is flat I’m sure they they can get used to people on Lemmy.
I don’t recommend lemmy because I don’t have conversations about social media sites with people.
Pretty sure most windows users hate their OS right back.
