The illegal part is that he created lots and lots of fake accounts that constantly streamed his songs and masked them to look like authentic listens. So much so that he was making $110k per month. That is straight-up fraud, which is what he was arrested for.

Thing is, it already was ubiquitous before the AI “boom”. That’s why everything got an AI label added so quickly, because everything was already using machine learning! LLMs are new, but they’re just one form of AI and tbh they don’t do 90% of the stuff they’re marketed as and most things would be better off without them.

Their blog post says explicitly that phone number is still required for sign-up and that usernames are purely meant as an avenue to message new people without sharing your phone number. Your username isn’t even visible to anyone but you and you can change it whenever you want.

Awesome! I love Signal and the lack of usernames has always been one of it’s bigger downsides, especially when comparing against other messaging apps.

Yeah, companies like Google are too big and have too much influence over society/politics, but calling them a search monopoly seems like a stretch. Of all the evil things companies like Google do, we’re going after them for paying other companies to make them their default search engine? It takes all of 30 seconds to change the default, though I admit most people won’t, mostly because they honestly have no reason to.

Google funds Mozilla by paying to be Firefox’s default search engine (and probably other royalties for search-related stuff?). In 2021, payments from Google made up 83% of Mozilla’s revenue.

They ought to have a manger/team lead interested in managing. An ad-hoc approach can only get you so far.

Though, you seem to be asking more about Devops than management. If you’re making a startup, just cobble an MVP together using as little custom-built tools as possible and redo it if/when you get enough investment to be able to take the time and pay for the necessary resources to do it right and maintain it. You’re going to want to redo your first version anway, better to not waste time and effort on complex solutions even if they’re more appealing. Saas is your friend.
