I guess, but I would like to. Especially because her culture is really important to her

Yeah, luckily my gf’s family is relatively wealthy by Chinese standards. I believe her mother is an engineer for a weapons manufacturer, and my gf herself used to teach civil engineering at a university
A more lightweight protocol limits the attack surface for capitalism. The web sucks because basically anything can be wrapped in http, including ads, tracking cookies, data collection JavaScript, etc.
Gemini protocol only carries markdown
I feel like the internet is such a lost cause at this point that it would be better to invest in other efforts like the Gemini protocol.
Yeah I would definitely just accept that I don’t get to have privacy from government surveillance. That’s why I’d not want to bring any of my personal electronics with me. It may be particularly challenging since I know two of the places my GF really wants to travel to are Tibet and Xinjiang (apparently both are popular tourist destinations), in both of which I understand Western tourists are under a lot of extra scrutiny because they don’t want more documentary crews and journalists getting in and sneaking some footage of the treatment of minorities. I have to be ready to just swallow my pride and appreciate it for what it is.
At some point I’m going to have to because the woman I love is from there. Probably I will need to get a burner phone for the occasion. It does seem like a beautiful country full of interesting culture. Shame about the government though.
Lol yeah, the things that are actually emitting half of every back-and-forth radio communication between a device and a cell tower
Lol don’t tell them about all the radio frequencies around them all the time
Like a Roomba?
There’s a reason they’re all in the same part of India and it’s because the police in that area have been bought off.
It’s Kolkata right? That’s the sense I get from watching anti scammer YouTubers like Jim Browning.
That’s the thing that gets me. Undercutting is the quintessential anticompetitive practice, and it’s Epic’s entire business model. They give away games for free because they are trying to siphon some of Steam’s customers. They make exclusive release deals with publishers because they want to force people to use their platform. They are trying to compete with Steam using their resources from the success of Fortnite and Unreal rather than compete with the storefront by actually having a better storefront.
I was making a joke about abusing Chinese censorship in order to stop them cloning GitHub repos (assuming that was something you wanted to do). The joke being that the CCP suppresses information about their human rights abuses. That is not true of the US. You could absolutely make a GitHub repo detailing the crimes of the US government. Nobody will stop you.
Apparently they aren’t respecting licenses. It’s possible to have source code publicly available on GH but have it not be truly FOSS. But that’s generally not a great idea since you’re effectively relying on the honour system for people not to take your code.
It’s funny how much effort you’re going to debating my word choice instead of the meaning and content of my rebuttal to your stupid comment. Do you have an actual point here? Are you claiming that what you were doing above wasn’t whataboutism? That it’s somehow a valid counterpoint to my joke about CCP censorship to say that the US also does bad things?
Lmao it’s literally the name of a logical fallacy. How is the term itself fallacious?
Also I harbour no racism or ill will toward the Chinese people. My girlfriend is Chinese and I care about her a lot and love learning about her culture. I just don’t abide the human rights atrocities (or censorship thereof) committed by any government.
Life imitates art
I’m not American. I don’t even like America.
Yeah I figured as much. It was mostly a joke. At the end of the day, if stuff is on GH, people can take it. It’s barely even stealing. Unless the license disagrees of course but then you were putting a lot of trust in society by making it public in the first place.
Tankie whataboutism strikes again.
Two things can be bad at the same time. Wild, I know.
Edit: also, the point of my joke wasn’t the human rights abuses. It is that these things are censored in China. So your comment is even more irrelevant. One could very easily create a repo outlining American crimes and put it on GitHub. But doing so in China with CCP crimes will have you sent to a Gulag
Yeah, good point. Luckily my name isn’t Michael which improves my odds somewhat
