Like Jesus, what do said people do when their OS upgrades versions?
Man oh man, let me tell you: some people just never upgrade

Man, respectfully, for those of us constantly in online spaces a logical answer like this seems to make total sense. In reality, that’s ridiculous and totally impractical. And it’s ridiculous when a software program that’s intending to replace a mainstream commercial program doesn’t consider the branding. GIMP has been around for decades and are steadfast about this name, but you are deluding yourself if you truly believe that they wouldn’t have made considerably more progress toward broad adoption if they had a better name.

City Lights is a great example of this but it is ALSO a great example of the opposite of this, specifically with all the jokes where drunk driving is the punchline

Would REALLY love to de-surveillance my vehicle if anybody has any tips (please quietly make the “buy an old car instead” jokes to yourself)
Anecdotally, I’ve noticed the same thing, but I think it might have something to do with the type of gatekeeping and “well akshually” apparent in the original post.

If your cat isn’t the first entry in /etc/sudoers I’m not sure I want to know you

Man, I feel like I went 15 years without anybody talking to me about using Gentoo but now THEY’RE BACK! Glad to see you.

Excuse me, mine is a skeletool. Very futuristic. Very manufactured by Leatherman.

I always thought Debian stable was basically just for the ISS
Can you believe these nincompoops can’t even boot into DOS?
Hello friend, welcome to the next ten years of explaining to people that being 29 and being 39 are not the same
It’s because most people do their browsing on their phone and so when they use a computer browser the internet just looks “normal”
I will never miss an opportunity to say that libraries are fucking awesome and one of the few unambiguously good things in this world.
It’s not for everybody and it’s certainly not nuanced or pointed humor at all, but it’s funny and it holds up.
I donate to them regularly, or at least I did until I found out they were going to spend my donation on union busting.
As far as I can tell, the first thing you have to do as an Arch user is convince yourself that you’re smarter than the package maintainer.
I recently decided to set up CachyOS after a long break from Linux. I was kind of astounded at the experience of using an Arch-derivative. I went back to Debian the same day. Sometimes shit just works fine even though it worked fine 20 years ago.
I think it can be more than one thing and the name has never helped.
