54·15 days agoPipe smoke smell is way worse than cigarretes. Old prof used to smoke pipe in his office… Stench is worse than tobacco bars and cig smoking offices +20 years later.
Humans are more important than other animals exactly in the same way your sibling is more important than a rando in another country.
The fact you’d pick your sibling before a stranger in a trolley problem doesn’t mean you get to exploit, abuse, mistreat them or shoot them for a burger. Same goes for non-human animals.

Open Source@lemmy.ml•We should push other phone OEM's such as Fairphone and Samsung to work with PostmarketOS, GrapheneOS, and Ubuntu TouchEnglish
1·1 month agoThe Free Software Foundation is actively working on this (reverse-engineering Android proprietary blobs, see Librephone project). It hasn’t even been a year yet since they began, but I’m rooting for them.
It’s relevant since the US is an actual, current threat. Arguements don’t happen in a void, what about the fucking thing happening right now is a valid argument under a lazy irrelevant post like this one

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Those in countries with universal healthcare, what's it like?English
61·1 month agoNo, it’s not all paid by our taxes, we literally have to pay insurance which is co-paid by our employer. The healthcare is universal because it’s mandatory to have insurance. If you’re unemployed you have to pay the full insurance yourself which is mind-boggling to me. The system is more similar to the US than true universal healthcare, because healthcare actors are private companies, doctors, and clinics getting reimbursed by insurances and the government.

Technology@lemmy.world•‘Your phone is about to stop being yours': anger brewing among Android fans as major Google app change draws nearEnglish
37·1 month agoBecause they are manufacturing consent for closing the platform, calling installing apps from other stores “sideloading” and hiding the options behind “SUPERDUPERDANGEROUS” warnings, making you wait 24h for literally just installing software on your own phone. They know 99% of people won’t even bother. It’s obvious what they want to do, this is a step back because of the outrage, have no doubts that they’re gonna keep pushing it
