That scam works well for AWS. My last company was a very small software dev (120 people) and spent $6M a year on AWS. Can you imagine the infra you could build with that much money!? And still have plenty left over to pay a small team to be responsible for it.

I got thrown in the drunk tank in college solely for failing the recite the alphabet backwards and mixing M and N, cuffed me the second I mixed it up. They had nothing else on me, was riding my bike straight down the sidewalk after returning library book in the wee hours. Performed the roadside aerobics perfectly.
Right here, where ICE is not. Want me to chase them down in another state?

My god did you fucking nail it. Been thinking about bailing out over all the things you brought up.
I’d add two things though, news users are also swamped with furry shit and little girl porn, or “anime” as some call it. I spent my first two weeks here smashing block on all that shit, yet it still pops up constantly. If 8-yo girls in sexy maid outfits and fucking dogs is your thing, lemmy might be a good fit!

The one good thing about China’s authoritarianism is that they can plan and execute over the long term. Meanwhile, in America, we can implode over the course of a couple of years.

I still have my Hotmail account from the 90s. :)

Teams is only successful by being part of the MS ecosystem. If you’re running a Windows shop, you might as well use Teams as its integrated. Why spend money on Zoom? If it weren’t under the MS umbrella it would have been over long ago.
I taught my kids never to touch a gun unless the owner cleared it in front of them and showed them the empty chamber.
In America, and other countries, it used to be backed by gold.
Best ELI5 here!
The juxtaposition of life giving water and the utter lifelessness of the desert always has me staring at pics like this. Logically I get it, but it’s hard to wrap my head around it emotionally.

Surprised at OU pulling this shit. Oklahoma State University maybe, but OU was a solid education in my day.

They’re probably not selling enough consumer RAM to be worth it any longer. Saying they’re pivoting to AI sales is pure C-suite talk to keep investors not only docile, but excited.
People just aren’t building and upgrading PCs much anymore, present company excluded.
I honestly think most of these bugfuck crazy views stem from we humans not having evolved to deal with the modern world. People feed us the simple answers we crave.

People aren’t buying, building and upgrading PCs like they used to. Crucial’s using the AI excuse so as not to panic investors. And lemmy, as usual, bought it hook, line and sinker.

This is part of what Forrest Gump was about. Think Forrest and Bubba would have made it to boot in the first place?

FYI: A “school shooting” is anytime a gun is discharged on school grounds. If I go shoot the soccer field on a Saturday afternoon, that counts.
And the San Francisco shooting? That was one kid purposefully going after another. It was a fight with a gun involved, not some random kid shooting the place up.
set their sights long-term, aiming to keep their employees happy in order to build a stable future
Funny, that’s how it worked at my last job. And then there’s Quik Trip, an untold story.
As to the working hard part, I think you’re missing the “move on” part. Gain experience, QUIT. Lemmy in general, if not you, has this victim take on employment. As an old supervisor used to say, “Fuck me? No, no, no, fuck YOU!”
“They’re getting rich on our labor!”
“What if I told you, you can withhold that labor?”
If one’s job is that shitty, they can easily move on for the same pay at another shitty job. The least we can do is punish bad behavior.
Anyway, capitalism was pretty OK when we had unions (back to the punishing bad behavior bit) and didn’t allow megacorps to monopolize every sector of the economy. Most here are probably too young to remember those days. :(
And… deleted.
