It is and it isn’t. Apple isn’t the best at managing development resources, so they seem to get stretched kinda thin when they take on too many projects. I know they have all the money in the world. That doesn’t make them effective at managing many teams on many projects. They’re already falling on their face on some of their software goals, at least from the outside. I’m happy enough for third-party devs to fill in niche features so long as Apple doesn’t block them from doing so.
I’m not shy of command line config, so that’s good to know. I copied both Ice and the other recommendation from SixColors to my RIL apps. I’ll check them out when I start seeing reasons to move off of my present install of Bartender. Until then, it still does everything I want in ways that I like. Thanks for the heads up!
I’m looking forward to checking out the thin design in a store later this week. I won’t buy one cause that’s not the product for me. I have an iPad mini at the sofa for quick one-handed browsing when we pause the tv. My partner gets a snack or goes to the bathroom and it’s the perfect size for a brief distraction, then it goes in a pocket on the side of the sofa arm.
No, but the metric is performance at that power-draw. And I don’t know that it’s the best there, even. But I’m excited for what it means for the future of my platform (MacOS).
Accidentally replied in the wrong spot.
I posted more because I’m happy about the chip performance gains. That it’s in an iPad is interesting, but I’m excited for the Mac.

Had to fuck over some more people, huh Lonnie?
I learned a lot about your country during the pan when I started listening to the Dutch News Podcast. You had some wild stuff going on and I got to learn about another culture. But I haven’t been turning in lately. Life got busier again. Cheers! Oh, and when a German asks you for something, tell them to first give you back your bike once for me!
Those clowns who told me a RasPi would cover my needs will be proven wrong now!
Contact your representatives if you have good ones that are useful and effective. For the rest of us, pour one out.
Beyond the Baltics, war zone areas around Ukraine and the Middle East have also seen sharp rises in GPS disruptions, including signal blocking meant to disrupt airborne attacks.
If the impact on uninvolved civilian aircraft isn’t enough to demand an end to these conflicts, I don’t think we’ll ever get our leaders to do anything.
Not a chance.
Couldn’t make a safer prediction.
Apple leverages its large ecosystem to disincentivise end users from switching to other operating systems for tablets.
No, I just like it better.
So I’m going to be even more frustrated…
At this point, I have all the third-party apps I need for stuff I care about unless someone on a podcast talks about something new. Apps on my main screen:
Reeder, Pocket, Simplenote, Deliveries, Plex, Alfred Remote, World Clock, Memmy (until it stops working and I have to switch), Netatmo, IMDb, Weather Strip, Shazam, Banking / Commerce stuff, WordWeb, Overcast, Proton Mail, Sky Guide, Timer+, JustWatch. Oh, and I’ve been meaning to switch from IMDb to Callsheet by Casey Newton. I just haven’t built up the muscle memory to use it before I open IMDb.
Google announced that they’d start deleting inactive accounts a while back. If they hadn’t logged in for a while, that’d be plausible.
I’m eager for the new iPad mini with the horizontally oriented camera. But I probably won’t bother cause the one I bought last year is perfect for keeping in a pocket on the arm of the sofa. Great for browsing on a slightly larger screen when my partner pauses to grab a snack.
Apple’s guy in charge of those systems called “hallucinations” exactly that last night in an on-stage interview with John Gruber.
