Religion is fucking stupid anyway, so a theocratic country is extra stupid.

Yep, which is why granting Palestine statehood would be also extra stupid.

Oh, ew. The preservation of Palestine is about the preservation of people and culture that have every right to exist. Not religion first (which isn’t wrong even if you are against it). This is a ghastly take.

        Really? Now?

Palestinians deserve their own state, religious or not, that is not for you to judge

I’m not a big fan of theocratic countries myself, but if my choices for the state of the world tomorrow morning are two theocratic countries or one theocratic country next to a field of charred bones, I think I could pick the former pretty easily.

A two state solution is what was agreed with the UN. Although it is sort of stupid to assume that the hate from either side will die down anytime soon, there are workable solutions like not having a Palestine state be propped up by Hamas. A terrorist group that was propped up by Netanyahi and who alongside Israel eliminated people’s ability to vote for new leadership, it’s clear that Israel wanted to stoke hate and a boogeyman they could also easily defeat.

So much for all those ships sent to protect it. So much performative theater.

Idk what people here were expecting, but I thought it was obvious that countries like Italy and Spain only meant that they were going to protect the ships when they were in EU waters, specifically their respective national waters.

Eww, an activist doing something to bring attention to their cause?

So now that’s on their permanent record and all they got was trying to save some human lives or inspire others to!

What, getting your cause in the news because you got arrested for supporting it, while also showing the wrongdoers doing wrongs, doesn’t have a positive impact? Does getting in the news prevent a genocidal, journalist-killing regime from doing a little activist-unaliving on the side? Or is it that no one could possibly have motives less narcissistic and self-serving than our so-called “leaders”? What even are you saying?

Murder. You’re allowed to say murder. This isn’t YouTube or some other corporate entity that will silence and demonitize you for using the correct words to describe the violence committed by others.

Yes, murder in all cases. Not like I fully analyzed my word choice at the time, but I think I did have some intent behind calling it that so I’ll see if I piece that back together: I think my overall stance was pretty well established at that point, so not risking confusion there. For “journalist-killing” vs “-murdering”, my guess is that the former just rolled off the [mental] tongue better, and I would’ve been more concerned about ambiguous attribution, for which both are basically equal, than morality, so just went with that. I believe “unaliving” supported the more casual off-tone of that question (“doing a little … on the side”) as part of my facetious approach towards the other comment, using that discongruity with the subject matter to emphasize the absurdity I was alleging in the other comment. The frog might be completely unrecognizable at this point though, so YMMV, but yeah, the intent of that word choice wasn’t to obscure the nature of that [potential] violence or avoid censorship or other automated tools, I do stand behind considering it kidnapping and murder.

The Israeli PM quickly and easily avoids any actual consequence for his country’s actions

Strike called in Italy, protests flare over interception of Gaza aid ships

Italian unions called a general strike for Friday in solidarity with the international aid flotilla for Gaza, while protests sprang up in a number of cities late on Wednesday after reports that the ships had been intercepted by military personnel. In the southern city of Naples, demonstrators got into the main railway station and halted train traffic, while police surrounded the Termini railway station in Rome after protesters gathered close to entrances.

In the northwestern city of Genoa, the USB announced that it intended to block the port and called on all protesters to gather at 10 p.m. (2000 GMT) at one of the main entrances. Over the past two weeks, protesting Italian dockworkers have prevented various ships from docking and loading, targeting vessels they say were involved in trade with Israel.
