People a week ago: “you’re all stupid, DDR4 is not impacted”

    Just wait. Scarcity loves company.

Now it’s starting to make sense. Wanted to upgrade my old processor to something newer, but still AM4. Prices are stupidly high.

AM4 is the greatest CPU socket that has ever been created.

The fact some shitty athlons were sold on it, but also something like a 5800X3D that has held up so well that some people are still willing to pay this much years later is astonishing to me.

I love my AM4 5800X3D system. Paired with a 6900 XT (nice card) and 64 gigs of ram there is nothing it can’t run for me. I have played with newer gen stuff and its all worse (ether bad linux support, stability, or the hardware cooks itself).

I honestly wonder if this shift away from consumer facing products has something to do with the plateauing of hardware as much as chasing a quick buck. I would think that if AMD just restarted 5800X3D production people would be happy.

I bought some RAM about 6 months ago. It costs me $299AUD for 64Gb, the same set from the same store is now $1,399. That’s an insane increase.

      2 x 48 GB Crucial 6200 DDR5 RAM in April for 310€, now it’s 1.290€. Totally insane.

Am I lucky or what. Built my first ever PC a few months ago before all this crap started. My only regret is going with 32gb ram instead of 64.

Built an AM4 NAS right around summer. My desktop is old but I also don’t really game that much off of my Steam Deck anymore. And so ends the era of oldschool home computing, I guess.

I really dodged the bullet by upgrading my aging 2600X with an 5950X and filling the memory banks to 64GB on my AM4 platform half a year ago, I really hope that the current price level entices a few new players to enter the market.

Unfortunately, RAM production is not something you start up on a whim. There are only a few players and adding new capacity is a very long process. They won’t do that unless they’re convinced that the market will still be there in a couple of years.

From what I’ve read the additional capacity that’s currently on the way will come 27-28, tho if the bubble keeps growing that won’t be nearly enough. Further capacity will take even longer…
I just hope that random economist whose name I don’t remember is right and it is just the tp-hoarding-phase. When the panic buying stops and stock can recover somewhat, prices will go down to higher than before but more reasonable level.

Guess it was good I jumped on the 5700 X3D when I was able to.

Wonder what 3 series sells for… 3700X, etc.
