      The 1 billion never existed

Much more likely is that it never existed. All the “savings” are programs that already paid out, or have contract penalties for early termination, were lies based on misunderstanding how the programs worked like tax rebates being counted as money already paid, etc.

DOGE has already had to walk back savings claims multiple times when it’s pointed out publicly that they can’t do basic math or know how the systems work to base their inflated numbers on.

They are making up a lot of numbers while also stealing money and claiming it’s all savings though, so any factual dollar amount “saved” can probably just be assumed stolen at this point.

They’re taking money back already granted to states for things like healthcare and emergency preparedness for natural disasters.

These fascist scumbags are just demanding tax payer money like they’re holding the country at gunpoint, and most of the time the agencies being notified can’t even make sense of the demands:

“an assistant secretary at the health department, told lawmakers on Tuesday that her office received news of the cuts at around 5 p.m. on Monday in “a series of emails that were slightly difficult to interpret.” She said HHS appeared to end six federal grants, three for mental health and three for substance use.”
