Well, I’d like to be surprised that POTUS was visiting a rape island, but having observed Trump for nearly a decade it’s entirely predictable that he would do that given the opportunity.

I think you could sort the members and supporters of his regime broadly into 3 categories:

    • there’s the MAGA people who are on board because they’re sick of the wokerati telling them what to do. They’re not really “engaged” with the politics. These are the “leopards ate my face” types.
    • there’s the apathetic conservatives who are trying not to look too closely, don’t necessarily like Trump, but support conservative policies and aren’t going to oppose him.
    • then there’s the active supporters like the FBI agents reviewing the files or republicans voting not to release them. They’re complicit for their own benefit.

I think there’s a fourth category, which is people who are keeping quiet for their own health. If you blew the whistle, how long do you truly believe you’d remain anonymous? Even if you moved to a foreign country right afterwards, how long do you think you’d stay alive? You have a highly narcissistic man in control of one of the most complex and far-reaching systems of surveillance ever built, and that man is HIGHLY invested in keeping his secrets - and failing that, he’s never been above making examples. Don’t forget Trump worked with the Mob, likely the Russian Mafia, and came of age in the tail end of the era where blowing the whistle on the wrong person in NY could very well end with you getting a lead injection from a very Italian man.
